dipstick filter

Hey guys,
My oil dipstick filter, can it be cleaned or unclogged? Slight bit of oil comes out of the dipstick tube when the dipstick is in place going at high rpm. Also, can the dipstick be sealed more snug? Was there a rubber grommet when the car was new? I know the rings are going so that is some of the problem but she runs like a "bat out of hell"

Hi Michael

I have a 65 230 SL that does the same thing. Oil is thrown up through the dip stick tube especially at high revs. It makes a mess over the engine, especially the fuel injection pump. Cleaning the engine breather pipe will help if it's blocked but the problem is more likely due to engine wear. My car has done 132,000 miles and goes like a rocket so on the advice of my mechanic I just live with it. Look on the bright side: all that oil on the underbody must be keeping rust at bay!

Mark
