Title: IN NEED OF A BRAKE BOOSTER
Post by: duke on September 19, 2025, 15:17:57
I HAVE A 1964 230SL.  MY car is at the Mercedes service shop in Indianapolis to have the brakes repaired.  They have told me that I am in need of the Brake Booster and the supply line.  The  service shop in Indianapolis says that none are available thru their sources.  Does anyone know where i might be able to locate the Brake booster and supply line?

Yes, they are hard to find and almost impossible to find new.  You may want to consider having yours rebuild. I don't know about close to you, but there are a some companies that rebuild these.
Make sure your old one, especially the plastic / bakelite parts don't get damaged while handling the booster.

Not sure if this is something you would consider, but I replaced my brake booster with an electronic brake booster (no vacuum required) from a Tesla Model Y.

We rebuild them here in the UK but if you do a search on this forum I'm sure you'll find a company in the USA that rebuilds them.

Get it rebuild. I had one rebuilt here in the states a few years ago. Quick turnaround and I don't remember it being outrageously priced. I am sure I can look up the rebuilder if needed.

I don't think this one will work on a 230 / 250 SL.

Yes, for the t52 you need the late bracket A113 435 0440. Unfortunately, it's hard to find. The t52 offered is also just a replica. It's all complicated, I just wanted to point out another possibility.

Why did they tell you to get a new one... What are your symptoms?

Guys What Is the brake booster model for 230 and 250? The t51 or t52 ? I believe that the 280sl has a different type of booster . They are not interchangeable? Do you reccomend a company in Europe who rebuilds these units ? By the way I’ve tested mine and at idle I have a vacuum between 400 and 500 mmhg which should be within specs . I’ve noticed that after replacing last week all brakes components ( discs , pads , hoses and master cylinder, the brake pedal seems to be harder . I don’t know if it’s only a feeling..  any advice is appreciated

What is "the Mercedes service shop"?  Dealership?  Independent shop?  Friends house?
