The technical manual shows a photo with the caption "Rim 108 400 00 02 showing noses instead of pins": http://www.sl113.org/wiki/WheelsTires/Rims
Is this correct? Does a 108 rim really have these noses to hold the small hub cap?
Unfortunately the photo shows only the outside and not the inside with the part number.
Who has one of these wheels?

Yes, certainly, and this was the case well into 1969, too...  The type that came after that, the 108 400 1402, no longer had the "noses" and it had ventilating holes all around (see reply #6).

The M-B number is on the outside, along with manufacturers logo, and size ( 14Jx6H ), and month and year of manufacture. January 1969 in the attached picture.

All W113 delivered with 6" wide wheels from autumn of 1965 onwards had these wheels mounted at the factory, well into 1969.
I attach an image showing wheel as well as another image showing ID stamped onto wheel center

The 230SL parts list - and the technical manual - show part number 113 400 0106 as the first 6" wheel, but it is not clear when the switch to the 108 400 0002 was made.

These are what I am running on my car.  I couldn't find a set of early 5 1/2J correct rims.  The only cosmetic difference I have spotted is that the four slit openings cut into the face, which I presume are for brake ventilation, are larger on the W108 rims.  I am not that worried about it and dont think many would pick it up even if it was parked side by side the real deal.

The upside to the W108 wheels is being able to fit slightly wider rubber on.  I have tested for interference with the wheels fitted and still think there is heaps of clearance.

Well, as Alfred states this chassis No was the switch over to the 6" wide rims type 113 400 0106, at the end of July 1964. These rims still had the separate pressed-in pins.

Subsequent switch to 6" type 108 400 0002 must have been after the introduction of the W108 Limousine, which happened summer/autumn of 1965. Let us hunt for the switch over date via this Forum

I attach an image of the type of wheel that came in 1969, to replace the ones with three "noses"
ID is 108 400 1402, type is 6Jx14H . Note the round ventilation holes added on this wheel
Follow up types 123 400 1602 and 126 400 1602 where similar, 6" wide and ET30, but of course these were not manufactured until several years after W113 production had ended.

My July 1965 230 contradicts this because it has the 113 400 0106. It's unlikely they've been swapped in as they have original 190 paint and the rest of the car is also very original.

Right DaveB. See recent update on Reply #5 !   However, your 113 400 0106 are indeed 6" , replacing the previous 5 1/2" type    :)
