What color does your paint code say was original?  See the production card.  I would leave it the original color.  I do have a silver (180) 289SL with interior color dark red (242).  I say it looks the best.

my data card says black tex but the car is at trimming supremo kevin o keefe as we speak he is doing the hood and the whole interior in leather and original square weave carpet i have told him to retrim in red leather instead of original black as i too think it looks best but will this really affect value if not done in black and especially if done by o keefe it will be a first class job.
can anyone post red interior pictures thanks 8)

Personally, I reckon a Cognac leather would look the mutts nuts. Silver with red is, for me, a quite common combo - the "rosso corsa" of Pagoda restorations. And pretty though it is, I think something different looks nicer. Blue over silver also looks great.

Kevin has done my interior (leather about 10 years back, carpets in 2006) and he does a wonderful job. Not to mention the joys of nosing around his sheds...

My vote is for a burgundy/ox blood color.  I'm not sure if you'll be able to find matching carpet.

Keep in mind there's more than one shade of red available. The factory did several, in fact. Be specific with the interior shop when it comes time to commit.

According to Kevin, the exact patterning in the leather has changed since he did mine, but the colour hasn't.

Personally, I like silver Pagodas with black, red or blue leather. All are beautiful, but you may also want to factor in the color of the hardtop and steering wheel.

I've also seen green leather used to great effect on a silver Pagoda. That would be pretty unique.

Just my 2 cents.

I've got silver/green - first saw it on a 300sl at Paul Russell's place and decided I had to have it in my next 113.  I love it, but must admit not everyone does...personal preference as with any color.
Now if I could just locate a correct green soft top...

It would depend on the buyer - some would factor it, others would not.
I think the real question is whether you are trying to please yourself or some future client.  If you are planning on keeping it for yourself, I would definitely do what pleases you when you look at it - drive it. Isn't that the most important?

Hey Rick, I'd love to see pictures of your interior (and a shot of the exterior with interior showing).  Was the green leather done according to the period MB green leather? (if so, what was the code?)

I'm redoing many things in my pagoda, and I'm contemplating some major changes...

Hi Waqas:
Unfortunately, this car is still original (and shabby)green Tex.
I intend to get to it next as I am now finishing a loong resto on my 1970 that I had to recover from a bankrupt shop.  Long story.  As far as "major changes" go, this car was originally white(050) with black tex. I looked forever for black(040) with parchment leather - an original combination but I never found it, so I created it myself. I would rather rebuild an original combo, as with my silver/green, but if it just isn't out there - you have to make your own decision.  I am new to posting here, so when I figure out how to attach pictures, I'll add them.

I'm digressing here a little, but I wanted to say that I've always wanted to create a Pagoda with a blue interior with plaid wool inserts like a Gullwing. Finish it with an ivory steering wheel and it would be pretty striking.

In any event, that's a great choice, Louis. Looking forward to seeing pix next month.

Alex Dearborn in the Boston area used to have a 190SL in silver with blue plaid/leather all decked out in racing garb.  Really a cool appearance.

Hello to all PagodaMen,

Since this topic has come back to life, I need to get my two cents worth into it.

The reaction to a particular color combination is a  purely subjective matter. There is plenty of psycho-babble literature to support this theory. As it pertains to individuals it is a three way split: we either like it, hate it or are indifferent to it.

Over the course of  my five year immersion in all things Pagoda, I have seen most of the factory color combinations. None of them particularly thrilled me.

Therefore since my car needed to have EVERYTHING re-done, I chose to please myself above all other considerations.

That meant  changing  the exterior AND the interior colors. As you can see, I stayed within the M-B color pallet but chose a leather color more common in the later model sedans:  Maroon,  or Mullberry as it is known to Brits. The paint is DB 172 Anthracite metallic.

My concept and execution were validated when Roy Spencer  ( of the OurSL website )  paid me the highest of compliments when he saw the car three weeks ago at one of our Bay Area First Sunday Drive events.

Comments welcome and solicited.

Hi Larry,
congrats to your color choice: anthracite and maroon - I like it! :)
Now if you add a maroon-colored soft top, that would be gravy.
Incidentally, your maroon red (some people also call it ox blood red) looks like the one Bob Possel picked also for his restoration. Who was your supplier?

IMHO, this would be a mistake. The factory never offered a red canvas top. But I agree with the comments made here otherwise. You picked a gorgeous color combo. COngrats.

I am with you Larry, put on the color that you like if you are not going for a show pony.  You have to live with it.

I have just started the process of repainting my hard top Light Beige 181H (from 291H Dark Olive) to go with my repainted 291H Dark Olive 280sl.  I also have a set of hub caps to match.  The Light Beige Soft top looked good so have stuck with that color combo for hard top which was originally the Dark Olive but it did not look that good when on the car.

I was thinking of getting my car redone by O'keefe, and it would be great to see his work before i bite the bullit.

You were going to post some pics of the finished article.... any possibility of seeing some?
