Last Sunday 9th December parked at Kemer Golf and Country Club, Istanbul. Looked like a US spec 280SL in Sand Beige (476) nice condition. Unfortunately I was so late for my tee time (wonderful Istanbul traffic >:() I could not stop and it had left by the time I finished my round of golf.

I saw a white one in a parking lot, when I was at Hilton Head, but was with some friends and unable to stop. There was 2 113 for the car club show and one brought hers back for the concours. I encouraged her to join our club.

Saw one last week at the shop when I picked up my ML.  A 1964 230sl with a very nice interior.  The paint wasn't all that great but overall a straight car.

This makes 3 cars in a week in Istanbul, where have they all come from?

Again in Kemer Country Club area 280SL in 387H with a very nice registration 34SL280 (all Istanbul cars have 34 to start the registration)

We also went to the Rahmi Koc museum, which specialises in all forms of transport only to see another 280SL on display, the lighting was poor so that is my excuse for the rather low quality photos ;)

Hardly ever, unless it belongs to one of the local forum members.

Actually, I'm posting this to see if my avatar works.

I saw one today at the intersection of Archer Rd and Tower Rd.  I believe it was a white 280sl.  Last week I saw a blue '64 230sl at the shop I use.  I found out that the owner has a second car a 280sl.

On the Fakenham -Wells-next-the-sea road yesterday at about 1.30pm. Which is the far end of nowhere.

Silver with I think a black hardtop. Not sure which engine as it was heading the other way (North)

Brave fellow as there was a lot of black ice around yesterday.

Saw a pale blue Pagoda pull out in front of me this morning in Kensington/London ... [ Soft top ]
I would have stopped my bike and handed over a card if it wasn't for my bike wanting to stall, due to the damp & cold weather. :-\

Are you here ?  :o

Two today, both 280s

One parked in Wimpole Street - in a silver colour with the greener tint, the other gold with brown softtop going slowly down Great Titchfield Street (both in very central London)

Both cars now have group cards....

Last week I was on my normal commute on Hwy 87 in San Jose and there was a  wreck on the side of the road.  As I went by I saw that it was a silver pagoda!  I almost had an accident myself trying to see.  There was only one car and I didn't see any body damage, but I think the front wheel was at a funny angle, so I wonder if the suspension collapsed.

Here in El Paso Texas I see about 2 a year.  Besides mine there are two others that run around from time to time.  A very rare sight but always glad to see them.

I am on Plaxo please accept  my invitation to communicate.

Thanks,
Bill

I just saw a white '71 280sl auto last week here in Hawaii.  First spotting in two years.  It was in very nice shape.  Parked at Kapiolani park by the tennis courts.

Kind of strange one.  In front of Royal Exchange bar in San Francisco financial district.  Early 230 with a jump seat.  Looks yellower than any of the beiges listed in the tech manual with a REALLY silver top. Guy said he didn't have a computer and never went online - so he won't be joining.  He could pass for Donald Southerland's brother.

Good to see there are still some of those left. Haven't seen a pagoda since leaving London, funny thing is after I pulled up to my local mechanic in Dunmanway (had to introduce the new lady, you understand), he took me around the back of his garage and showed me two immaculate R107s, both less than 50k milles which his dad brought over in the late 80s- they are used on local car club days out, West Cork Vintage Club, only if the weather is good (and that is unusual in this part of the world!)

I saw a Pagoda in Palermo, Italy this morning.  I was in a taxi on the way to the airport and it was in the distance.  Cream in color and no headrest.....but too far away to tell which model.   Funny how I reacted....I felt like I was at home in the states when I saw it rather than associating it with Europe!   I have been in Italy and Greece 30 days so far in 2009 but have yet to see a Pagoda until today.

Would you believe... on the shoroom floor of the used car dealership next door to where I work?  1965 230SL 113042-10-009987, white w/ black tex, 4sp manual, euro version (KPH speedometer, early style euro headlamps.  Last registered owner was in Manhasset NY.  The car  looks like it has been rode hard and put away wet" and must have had a bondo job and a repaint within the last couple of years. Grimy engine compartment with one interesting feature I have not seen before on a Pagoda:  The breather hose on the valve cover does not angle across the valve cover and connect to a metal pipe that routes over to the throtte body on the intake.  Instead, it angles back towards the rear of the engine compartment and connects to an angled metal road draft tube that dumps oil fumes to the atmosphere down behind the motor mount bracket on the IP side of the engine.

The Tom Clancy film, The Sum of All Fears. Sitting in Kabul bored to tears last night watching said film and lo, Morgan Freeman playing some spook meets Jack Ryan outisde his flat in the evening in his 113. Judging from the wing mirrors it would appear to be a 280. Worryingly, it was raining in the film and the car with softtop up was very wet indeed.

Does this count as a 'spot'?

I happened to spot a white 280sl a couple days ago a few streets over from my house.  It is tucked away next to the owners house and almost in the back yard.  Very abandoned looking like it hasn't moved in a long long time.
I may have to be a good neighbor and take it off his hands for him;)
