During the pandemic I could not get to my 1969 280 SL for two years. Once I did, it fired right back up, and that was with a tank full of 2 year-old Ethanol-laced fuel. So, check the oil, coolant and brake fluid levels as suggested, take a deep breadth and start her up, chances are it will be just fine.

p.s. I hate to admit it, but my tires are about 16 years old and I am still driving (albeit not on the highway) with them. I know I know, next year.

Thanks to both of you for the tips! I'll definitely check all of the fluids before driving it.

As for the tires, if I was just going to drive her around locally, I probably wouldn't worry as much, but as I have a four hour drive to get her from my parents' place to mine, I just don't want to risk it. I had a tire blowout on my old ford escape years ago on the freeway and it was both the most terrifying (and expensive) car experience. Tore half of the bumper off!

Kelsey,

Welcome!  Search the forums for Beers and Pagodas and make plans to go south for one of those.  You'll meet great people and learn a lot about these cars.

Kelsey, you are certainly invited to Pagodas and Beer, but the drive may be a little daunting.Santa Cruz is a bit of a drive from San Diego.

Jonny, yes, that's a bit much of a drive for me! I do Santa Cruz to LA frequently (but in my Subaru). Maybe one of these days though! My sister lives in San Diego so I love any opportunity to visit! Thanks for the warm welcome!

Yeah, sorry. I didn't mean for you to drive in the Pagoda.  It's new to you with a lot of deferred maintenance.  Maybe someday as part of a much larger vacation, after a couple years of service & repairs.  But for now, just make it a 3 day weekend and go meet people and see their cars.

Hi Guys!

New member here, Victor Milke from Queretaro, Mexico. I am new to W113's but I have many old toys and I am not afraid to work on them, though lately I have been trying to get cars in good condition and not restoration projects, as I have a few of those and at 60, I may not have time and money enough to finish them all! haha

Anyhow, I just got a 1967 250SL California coupe, European version, standard shift, two tone... and I am very happy with it. A very original car, not restored but mantained. I had some details done, like installing new tires and painting wheels and hubcaps in the process, plus changing the firewall pad, asides from whatever minor corrections or work it needed. I am about to change the radio to a correct one and basically keep the car as a very good user, or that is the idea.

I will sure have a few questions and will be bugging you with them soon.

Thanks!
Victor
