Hi Ger,

I am living near Brasschaat, so that is indeed a 20 minute drive to Roosendaal.

Don't know how to insert an image, I must say

best regards, Rudy

I'm a new member (today). My name is Fernando Adrianza and I have a 280 SL 1968. I live in Houston, TX. but I'm from Venezuela. I'm Chemical Engineer and I work for Chevron. Previous to that car I had 17 years ago a 230 SL 1965 but I got married and the car was spent in the honeymoon so I decided to buy another one (against all odds).
I hope I can help the Club and the Club can help me.
My Best Regards to all the Members.

Welcome FAdrianza!!

There a quite a few Pagoda owners in Houston.  We have had several great gatherings and sharing of information.  Here is a link to a past event.  If the link doesn't work search the events forum for "Texas Event".

Let us know how we can help you enjoy your car and I will look forward to hopefully meeting you in the near future.

so today I collected my new car: 230 sl 1966.

Had to drive it 240 km to home (150 miles app.).

No big issues: drove in traffic jams and also up to 140 km/h. No heating up, good oil pressure.

Lots of noise (ratio 4,08) , very good acceleration, but high rpm.

Also probably some problems due to dirt in fuel, because of emptying tank whit driving to reserve. I hope it will be that.

Some parasite noises, that will need closer look.

Now procedures of inscription in Belgium will start. (Imported from the Netherlands)

best regards, Rudy

hi, my name is John.  I just joined about two weeks ago.  Just wanted to say hi to everybody.  I don't really "own" a Pagoda just yet but in a process of acquiring an abandoned one from my sister's house.  My goal is to get the car running and become a proud w113 owners like yourselves on this forum.  I'm from the USA. San Jose, CA to be exact and if any forum members from this area can steer me in the right direction to achieve this goal, it will very much be appreciated. I have absolutely no knowledge of this car up until two weeks ago so any help or input will be a tremendous blessing.  Thanks you everybody and have a great day!

Welcome John, (always nice to have another John on the Forum:-) You have come to the right place for info on these great automobiles. I saw the pictures of your "Orphan" and while it saddens me to see a car such as this abandoned and left to rot, I am happy you have found it just in the nick of time and I wish you success in bringing it back to life.

Greetings to you too gerster and thank you 49er for your encouragement and well wishes.  So far this forum and the members here have been a tremendous help to me and hopefully in the future, I can be a contributing member once I gain more experience with these cars.  In the meantime, I like to congratulate you for being the original owner of your Pagoda!  There must not be that many original owners still around and I have great respect for people like yourself to have such dedication and loyalty to the things they love. Well, thanks again and hope to see more of you in the forum.

My name is Bruce Springate & I live in Harrodsburg, Ky. I am 75 years old & retired in Jan. 2013 after 45 years of owning a sporting goods store. I purchased my first pagoda in 1978, a 1966 230 SL tan with navy(which I still own).  About 10 years ago I purchased  a 1967 white w/navy 230 SL  I had the motor changed to V 8 out of a 1986 500SEC.  The motor looks original & runs & drives great.

Bruce,

Great that you have joined ... owning one of these cars since 1978 will probably make you one of the very long term owners ... very good to hear.  Due to your long term ownership you probably know a lot about these cars and can advise us on the quirks etc.   Look forward to that.

Regarding your engine change to a mercedes V8, you will find a couple of threads in the R&D section very interesting as others have just recently completed such feats or are in process.  Your thoughts on such modifications would be very interesting.

Welcome ...

I’m Enzo, 45, (father German, mother Italian) married with a German woman, and we are parents of a 14 years old boy. My passion for the MB classic cars are logical..My father has been working 32 years for the old MB Museum in Stuttgart-Untertuerkheim, and so I spent some weekends in these old Pagodas and R107 SL's. My father used to get every year a new employee's car, and for summer vacations we drove 1,300 Km to Italy to see our Italian family. I remember driving the old Brenner Pass with our Mercedes "dash eight 200", and later with the model line 123 down close to Gargano, which will be remaining forever in my memories. I simply love the design and lines of Paul Bracq and Pininfarina, this is probably the time I would have liked to live with the economic independence of today.
We are currently living in the mid south of the USA, close to Memphis. I am working as an Export Manager for a German engine parts company, and yes, we manufacture(d) a lot of parts for the Pagoa back then.
I drive a 050 white 230SL Pagoda (1965) which is currently with Bud's Benz in Douglasville for inspection, hopefully Doc David will not ask for all my vacation savings... : ;D ;D ;D

New member introductions
Hello everyone,

I like to introduce myself, my name is Rolf-Dieter S, retired Mechanical Engineer. I was born in Magdeburg, Germany some 75 years ago (still feel like 55) and immigrated to Canada in 1957, married now for 52 years one daughter. I purchased a partly reconditioned 1969 Mercedes 280 SL last week from a local collector of mainly 1950s to 1960s cars. The 280 SL was his wife's car. The car rolled off the assembly line in late 1968 and was shipped to Florida USA for the first owner. The second owner also lived in Florida, USA. The car left Florida mid 1992 for Canada with 65,102 Miles on the odometer where the third owner had it restored here in Ontario. When the car had 67,027 miles on the odometer the odometer had to be replaced. The new odometer now has 4,400 miles on it, therefore the total milage on this car when I purchased her was 71,427 total miles. From what I understand in the past 20 years the previous owners wife has only driven this car 4,400 miles. She eventually gave it back to him since she mostly started this car without driving it. As we all know this car loves to be driven and starting it only is not a good idea.

I own two late model cars (a 2011 Mercedes C350 4MATIC and a 2011 BMW M3) and purchased this 1969 Mercedes 280 SL since it will not only be great fun to have and drive to car shows, also I will enjoy working on the engine as I am now retired. When I was a young fellow I drove this type of car in Montreal and at that time the price was around $9,000- Canadian if my memory serves me right. I mainly drove American cars up to the age of 50, after that mainly Mercedes and BMW's. My love for German cars comes from watching my dad carefully taking his engine apart and labeling every part for reassembly  :) Back when I was 17 I worked part time as a student in a small company, the owner had a Mercedes and I was allowed to drive this car out and back into the garage after washing her ... what can I say, I'm a car nut :)

Anyway ... I've done a lot of research before purchasing this car and I am glad I found one in such great condition. I look forward visiting this forum and once I figure out how things work here to become a Full Member. Photo attached below.

EDIT. 1… My former Mercedes C350 was my company car I sold her to a lady in Ottawa, Canada since our plan was to go to only one Daily Driver. Once the C350 Benz was gone my wife became unhappy with our joint decision to give up the Benz, so we traded the BMW M3 in for a nice 2013 Mercedes-Benz E350 4MATIC last month now both the wife and I are happy after all I do have the 280 SL to play with :) Also note once I became a member here I changed my handle from Alter Peter to my real first name Rolf-Dieter. During this edit I also corrected the milage I earlier stated in this post.

EDIT. 2 ... June, 2016 Update Last year I changed my DD to the C63 AMG [btw I drive my AMG for safety not for speed, it's nice to have those 481 HP under the hood when needed, also love the sound] for I missed my M3. I like to think of my 2 cars as ...

EDIT. 3 .... All the cars have now gone ecept my SL 63 AMG and my Blue Tornado. See photo below.

Something New and Something Old

... and not nessesarely in that order. I'm found of both cars and I drive my Pagoda at least once a week during the summer months ... Also going to car shows. Soon I will have driven my Pagoda 10,000 Miles since I found her in May 2013.
