most welcome…

I think that most of us share the same idea of being addicted to Pagoda style :) Ownership is optional, yet advisable ;D. I would even say that not owning a Pagoda you miss a lot of simple pleasures, but you also are immune from lots of troubles, deceptions that end up in huge expenses. On that balance pleasure exceeds troubles…. of course :D

So, maybe you can launch a new trend: those who are funs, but not owners, should start a "Adopt a Pagoda" movement…. What do you think? :)

I'd love to adopt one.  ;)

Hi Simon and Welcome

Rest assured that in this forum there will be nobody telling you that you were wrong :D

And I am certain that - with 17 years of ownership - you have proven that your attachment to the car is a great and rewarding experience, except for the likelihood of being a financial drain ;)

Hi Everyone,
My name is Lee, and I live in New Orleans, perhaps the worst city in the US for heat, humidity, rain and rust. Nevertheless, I am a new member and proud new owner of a 1970 manual 280 sl. When I was in architecture school in the late 70's, the coolest girl in the class ahead of me had a red pagoda that was the exact color of her lipstick. I loved the lines (of the car! LOL), and vowed that someday I would have a pagoda. I didn't know enough to note if it was a 230, 250 or 280 - as I said, it was all about the design. Fast forward 35 years, and after a six month search I found the car for me. This website was a big help and I know will continue to be. The car needs a good bit of work, but is a one owner CA car with almost no rust. One good thing about the car is that it that the engine hasn't been altered. One bad thing about the car is that the engine hasn't been maintained!! It's with a mechanic in Houston while I convert my carport into a garage with a/c and dehumidification. If anyone has tips on best systems, etc., I would appreciate any advice you can share. I'm happy to be in your group and look forward to getting to know many of you and hopefully your pagodas as well.

Good evening ladies and gents,

I'm new to this forum and stumbled upon it during my long search for a Pagoda (found a lot of useful help in the technical manual btw.. :) Probably have to many addictions when it comes to cars to be considered a total benzoholic, there are simply too many interesting marques out there with their own special characteristics. But, at least to me, the virus of MB:s seem to be something that sneaks upon one while experiencing both the mechanical and visual genius and integrity, rather than getting one gobsmacked into some short term fling that have been the case with other brands. It feels like beauty that grows with time. So time will tell!

I've recently acquired a 1965 230SL with some interesting history - first owner was Ursula Wirth, MB works co-driver for Ewy Rosqvist-von Korff during the Gran Premio Argentina and later also co-drove Pat Moss (Should this be a contribution for famous pagoda owners?).

Looking forward to getting some summer love during our relative short hot season and i'll get back to you with some pics later.

Cheers,
Pär Pettersson

Hello all!
Recently was given the family 1967 230sl for safe keeping.  It has been in my family for almost 40 years, and was my mom's 25th anniversary gift from my dad.  I am 45, have been married for 20 years, and even took my wife to our high school prom in this very car.

My dad is not known for his automotive care, but it is mechanically sound, has some rust, and I'm told it smokes some.

I plan to preserve it for future generations and hope to see my kids drive it to the prom.

I thank all in advance for your wisdom and guidance.

Matt the ScubaDoc,

Welcome ... Nice story ... as you will see, once you pose more details of the specific issues, many on this forum have amazing knowledge and very generous with it.  You will also notice that posting photos is highly encouraged and enjoyed ... some just can't get enough Pagoda moments.

best,

Hi Garry - your post reminds me of the time I used to do this, for some years. Just a few suggestions:

- most people are not comfortable sharing their full name on forums and use some sort of 'alias'; I would recommend that you use those as well, even though as an administrator you can see real/full names

- because Pagoda World was issued so sporadically, I aleays made sure we printed spare copies so I could send the latest one to new members along with the sticker and letter; this made the welcome package much more 'substantial'

Thanks for putting in your volunteer time.

Hi Cees,

Noted and amended names . The PW is a good idea and I will see if I can get some of the past PW's for future use.

Interesting color combo   ...  I like it.  In regards to rust, many on this forum will feel your pain. And some will be able to advise where the hidden rust lurks based on where you see it.

Enjoy the process ... You've got some supporters.

Thanks, I think I like the color combo too, it even has a subtle red pinstripe.
My Dad tells me the original color was grey.  I may return it to original if I do a complete restore someday.  I will have to order the data card to find out the exact color combo.

sd,

Welcome! Quite a few members here in Mass, btw. Several in your area, too including two on the Cape. Several of us typically attend "Germanfest" sponsored by the local MBCA chapter in Brookline in September...

Welcome

I read somewhere that "if you don't find rust, you're not looking hard enough" and that if it's "rustfree" it simply means no-one found any yet

Hi to all,

I looked around about a year for a 280 sl. But I ended up with a silver 230 sl of 1966. Because of its general state and the good feeling I had with the garage selling it.

I live in Belgium, near Antwerp.

I already found a lot of good information here, so I joined as a full member to acknowledge the support I got here.

best regards, Rudy
