How true! I first tried to buy my 230SL from the original owner in 1989. A friend and client with a faster draw and fatter checkbook beat me to it. Every time he came in to do business with me I would ask, "Hey Marvin, you ready to sell that Mercedes yet?" 14 years later he rang me up and asked, "Hey Mike, you ready to buy that Mercedes yet?"

Hello from germany,
my name is Wolfgang an I live in the nice town Münster , I 'm a fan of the Pagoda for many years, had some in the 80's and 90's, now i'am back as a owner of these beautiful cars again .
I bought my 280 SL, US import in holland a year ago, there some little things to fix, but overall a very nice and rustfree example .
Every other year I visit the states , mostly I visit california and Texas where my brother lives in the hill country near san antonio .
As another classic I drive a 86 300SL Typ 107 .
What I read here shows this is an exellent place to talk about the beautiful pagoda,

most of my visits go to the area south of LA, Danapoint, San Clemente Beach , Carlsbad, so I will be arround the corner, i would really appriciate to meet some Pagoda friends.
As soon as I know when my next visit will be I will let you know, right now we have typically grey ugly winter weather here in germany and the radio played " california dreaming " from the mamas and papas .

You live about 1/2 hour from my brother. Last July I visited my brother. Also perhaps you know Heinrich B. He lives in Georgsmarienhütte,and he is a member of the Pagodetreff.de site. I was fortunate last July to travel with Heinrich and his wife (with two Pagoda’s) to Enkirch to be part of the 2017 Mosel Tour and meet many fine Members of the Pagodetreff.de group.

Hi all,

I have been a member for some time while I researched my first Pagoda. I didn’t limit my search to 280’s but it is what I ultimately purchased. I was looking for a rust free, as original as possible but most importantly correct in any work done on the car. Obviously hard to find especially with a budget in mind. I looked at or had some one look at a dozen or two.

I found my car in Las Vegas his fall. It was consigned to a collector car dealer but I dealt directly with the owner. It is a 1969 280SL with 80,000 original miles. Color is blue (903H) with MB- Tex parchment (145) interior. The car had a bare metal repaint along with some other work (windshield, new body rubber seals, leather seats) back in 2007. The car is in very good shape but once I get it out of winter storage I have some things I want to work on and sort out. Overall very happy with my purchase and now being a “true” member of this fine group.

I have a 71 280 sl 4 speed w/ac, with hardtop. 82k original miles. I look forward to helpful tips. This car has been in my family since 1972 and was a California car till 5 years ago when it came to Texas and is tucked away.

I would highly recommend you get familiar with the main search function, just to the right of the "home" button, it will be you friend.

My name is Jose Altuve .....now I became FULL Member.
I used to have a 280SL 1971 when I was living in Venezuela....past century

Currently I don't have a Pagoda ....not yet ......looking for a 280SL 1971 gold,tan leather,ivory steering wheel and standard shift..........is not that much.
I live in Texas but currently in South Florida visiting grand children where I hope to meet some of the Pagoda owners.
I have not spotted a Pagoda on Miami streets...........but sure some of them will show up in a moment.

Welcome to the Group Jose,

As I think has been said to you before, don't necessarily limit your your search to the needle in the haystack and thus potentially miss on a really good vehicle because it is the wrong colour or wrong model of the Pagoda. Each has its own + and - and owner ship of any one of them is good.

Seek the help of the member here especially if you think you have one you are willing to buy, we will all point out its faults that helps in negotiation and a final decision to buy.

And last but definitely not least, we love photos here so post up photos for all to see when you find the one.

Hello everyone,
I have a 66' 250Sl back in my possession after several years (long story...) and I am grappling with the daunting task of undergoing a full refurbishment/restoration. I am in the San Diego (north county) area and wound really appreciate any help from the locals to begin my adventure. This site is fantastic as I visited here frequently around 15 yrs ago and now I am back!

Hi All,

I am a new member as of January 2018 and live in San Diego. I have a 69 280SL automatic with a/c that I found next to a barn in Santee, CA 20 years ago. I have enjoyed driving it throughout the years and never expected the price to jump as much as it has in recent years. I am currently restoring the car completely but taking my time to do it right. I have had Hjeltness Restoration do the work to date, Eric has been very helpful and a wealth of knowledge. Hjeltness is located in Northern San Diego county and is very well known in the MB community. Always enjoy stopping by and talking shop. Here is a picture with 2 magnificent vehicles that Eric has worked on, maybe one day I can add one of these to my collection. Last thing is paint and interior and my 280 will be fully restored. The original color is 903H so I have been painting everything with 903 blue while restoring, engine bay, wheel wells, undercarriage, etc. Looking forward to getting to know everyone and sharing info.
