Help with driver's side window replacement
« on: October 05, 2025, 18:23:45 »
I need to replace the driver's side window in my 1971 280SL. I unbolted the four bolts from the bottom of the window but cannot get the glass out. Part of what I think is the regulator wants to come with it when I try to side it out. It seems like the glass is stuck to that part of the regulator shown in the photo. I cannot get it loose if that is the case. Can anyone help me from here to get the glass out? I don't want to force anything and create more problems for myself.

Once you have the glass removed from the winder remove the outer chrome trim from outer the top of  the door. There are several spring clips that hold the inner and outer bristle rails in place. Carefully pry them loose and remove the bristle rails as you work. You should be able to slide the glass up and out at that point.

Thanks, Benz Dr. Does the metal piece I have circled in the photo come out with the window? It is stuck to the glass and it looks like it should stay with the regulator and not come out with the glass. But this is my first time and I can't figure it out.

That piece stays on the glass, forward and aft pieces. They are bonded to the glass. If I remember correctly. It was probably 25 years ago when I did mine.

Thx, Kevkeller. If that is the case, I'll have to figure out how to get them off. The new glass does not come with them. I'll have to bond them to the new glass.

those 'jaws' are available new if you can't get the old ones off. From memory, you epoxy the new ones onto the glass, with a piece of thin felt cut to size between the glass and the jaws that becomes saturated with the epoxy and aids in the adhesion process.
