Under dash card
« on: October 06, 2022, 15:19:44 »
Hi
I’m just wondering about the cards under the dash.
Is there a template anywhere for them?
What type of card was used?
And, I’m assuming RHD version differ from LHD?

Here's a link for the templates (special thanks to Mrfatboy and JamesL for the templates):

Fantastic
Thank you for that..
So, if I take my phone to a professional print shop ( I’m in the UK) they will print to the actual size? I don’t see any measurements when I open the pdf .. is it just me?
Also.. most importantly.. what should I be looking/asking for as regards the actual card itself?
Where would I get it? ..

A print shop may be able to print the underdash cards (.pdf files) onto a poster board for you, but I'm not certain.

I printed each .pdf file onto (6) 8.5" X 11" pieces of paper. I taped the 6 pieces together, cut out the image, and then used it as a pattern. I bought three pieces of black double-sided project board (Length: 22" Width: 28" Thickness: 3/16") from a local Hobby Lobby. I taped the pattern to the project board and carefully cut it out with an Exacto knife. I did this for each under dash card (driver side, center, and passenger side). The under dash cards came out really nice.

Did the under dash cards help to mitigate any engine noise?  I’ve got the cards but was thinking about added a layer of foam on the backside for sound absorption.  I have no idea how effective it might be?

Apart from sound deadening, what is their function?

I believe the original cards had a foam layer, similar to what SLS is showing.

Whereabouts are you in London?
You’d be welcome to pop by with a roll of brown paper and draw around the template I made. I’m in Dulwich. Pm me

I bought the SLS board and foam backed it before the install.

This is a great idea to use the template. I am missing driver and passenger side boards but have the original center one which does have foam backing. I think the foam backing will also prevent any rattling of anything that may touch the boards.

Struggling to find the equivalent of the
“double sided project board” here in the UK,
I wonder if it could be called something else here?

Could it be called “foam core board”?   I’ve used it many times and it might work here beautifully. It is foam center sandwiched between two sheets of heavy card stock.  It is easily cut with an x-acto knife or box cutter.

This foam is different than the soft foam covering the backside in the sample from SLS-hh-shop shown above.

This sort of thing?
https://www.hobbycraft.co.uk/west-design-black-foam-board-a1-single-pack/5742351000.html

Beware though that the screws are not long, and the board (by the pedal box) bends in two directions - so if the board is too thick, you might need longer screws/lose that flexibility

I believe this is very similar to original dash card material

Thank you Lorsar
I have just sent off for a sample of that Martrim..
Meanwhile, with the most gracious help from JamesL in supplying templates, I have managed to use project card(£5 a sheet) to complete what I think is neat job for now..
Even managed to fit my second(useless) speaker in.. not,I fear, for the purists..
But, until I get the right card, it will do as an trial fit…
