Loop “Charcoal” Style Carpet
« on: August 08, 2023, 00:48:48 »
Most of the carpet in my car is original and in very good condition. The floor mats  and the transmission tunnel are the two exceptions.

I was looking at buying a brand new carpet set just to do a mix and match, but they are pretty different. Does anyone have any original “charcoal” floor mats or tunnel pieces around?

I am not sure of the technical description of the original, but here is the difference. The original is more of a salt and pepper. The new offering is more of a charcoal and black.

I get we all are dealing with NOS being NLA, but figured if any hoarders out there had anything….

From how many suppliers have you received samples?

The sample is from GAT, John has been pretty awesome. It is close, but I am not wanting to rip out the stuff that is still “nice enough”

The sample is from GAT
So just one vendor sample.  I know there are probably only a few actual sources of carpet and most companies are middle-man resellers, but I would still try getting samples from several other companies, even from overseas.  (and check that for-sale post here)

Hello again,

So most of my original carpet is in pretty remarkable shape.

The footwell floor mats and the transmission tunnel for an Auto are what I really need. I hate to rip everything else out, but figured I could clarify my needs in hopes of coming up with something.

There's a similar post to this: https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=37481.0

No matter how good your original carpet is, it's 50+ years old. Nothing new will match. Even when matching "colored" items such as flooring, tile, etc. there's always the caveat of matching dye lots, etc, or in the case of mixed paints, to further mix the paints from one can/bucket to another to ensure uniformity.

I gave up the un-matching carpet mats for CoCoMats, very happy I did.

I couldn’t agree more.  Finding an exact match simply isn’t going to happen.  The very best you MIGHT be able to accomplish is a blending of colors/textures.  Even if you found original carpet material, differing environmental factors would yield it different than yours.
