Running from Covid during lockdown in Australia
« on: September 09, 2021, 07:18:31 »
We have been travelling in the outback here in Australia in our camper van for last five months dodging covid.
Some very rough roads and tracks. Not like the easy drive across the USA in our Pagoda just Pre Covid!

Pawel,

Brisbane is our northern east coast state capitol.  The beach photo was taken another 1500km north of the city and there is still another 1000km north of that again.  Its all pretty remote, some tropical but some desert even along the east coasts. All of the west coast in the attached map is desert but with beautiful remote beaches. Normally about 300km between small towns and fuel.  Sometimes its lots more and extra fuel (and water) has to be carried.

Colin, some states are in lockdown and others are not. The trick is to skirt around those in lockdown, namely New South Wales and Victoria.  Attached is a google map of our route for getting back to home.  We are at about two thirds the way and its getting toward 4000km just for that part of the trip.

Sure is a “walkabout” wandering around almost aimlessly for months on end. But get to see some spectacular country and sunsets.

Making me homesick!  Spent a year and a half in Woomera, SA, and traveled as much as possible while there.  Had good friends in Renmark but they have since moved to Adelaide.  Did you go through Birdsville?  Not too many tracks going east and west in that part of Australia but I know you know that better than I do.

Yes, my wife's uncle once said on the phone "just came back from the neighbour next door, sorry to call late, it is about 300km, you know".

Nice trip.
A long time ago I circumnavigated the whole of Autralia in a '76 kingswood. Not without incident!
Fond memories.

Great journey, beautiful photos. There is only to find up a reason to go to Australia for a month?
BTW how many km and in days was this journey in total?
Maybe we need to visit Uncle Paul's wife? ;-)

Seb,

Just that part of the journey has taken us three weeks to do comfortably and also have a look at the areas as we go.

In total, we left home in April and will be back home first week October. Total of six months on the road and Total trip miles this time, will be around 17,000 km.

It sounds like a big  challenge, but also like a great adventure.
So I wish you a good trip!
