Changing the Injection Pump Oil

I have a basic question, I'm trying to change the oil in my injection pump and need to know what type/weight of oil to use?  Can I use the same weight oil as in the engine, currently using 10W30?  Also, how much oil does the injection pump take?  

On a related subject, it appears I need to replace the seal around the injection pump fuel idle screw as it has developed a slight leak, is this a difficult job?  What's involved?

Oh, if it helps my injection pump is a PES6KL70/120R11, 406 08376 version and I do not beleive there is a oil line running from the engine to the pump; the oil is self contained to the pump.

Scott- you can pump the old oil out using one of those squirt bottles. Here's a link to our technical articles page that deals with the FI pump. The information concerning the oil supply is roughly halfway this (looooong and very interesting) document:

I don't think the capacity is listed there, but the procedure for checking with the dipstick is.

All:

I talked with someone at Bosch about the weight and amount of oil for the injection pump. According to Bosch use the same type/weight of oil as is in the engine. The pump should take a little over 1/2 a pint or  250ml - 300ml.

He gave me some insight into removing the large 41mm nut on the back of the injection pump and how to replace the o-ring around the fuel idle screw. Has anyone done this? I need a little encouragement as I'm a little nervous about messing with the injection pump further.

Did you check the oil level in the Inj Pump?

Was it normal?

In the posts that Cees recommended, there should be a mention of "too high an oil level" in the Inj Pump.

It is important to remember that IF your Inj Pump was adjusted while OVER FILLED, you will need to check the air/fuel mixture because the internal oil will not be impairing the operation of the governor springs.

I removed 500ml of oil that was black sludge (like treacle) and replaced it with 250 ml of engine oil. The fuel/air mixture changed dramatically.

I totaly forgot about that, thanks.  I removed around 300ml and replaced a little less, around 250ml.  I don't think that I will have an as noticible experience, however, I'm sure there will be an improvment adjustment to be made.

As an alternative to removing the large 41mm nut (mine was extremely tight!), you could instead remove the complete rear cover.  It is held on by 6 screws, and has a rubber seal that will most likely survive a gentle removal.  All remaining oil will spill out.
It's kinda fun to look at all the goodies inside as well  :)
