Dear friends

For sale one original Mercedes W113-230SL fully refurbished in perfect condition.  This is for a 230SL LHD manual transmission.  Price 1,350 usd OBO.  Plus shipping of course.

The charging system loop has been updated to accommodate internal regulated alternators like BOSCH AL66X which fits perfect on Pagodas.   Cables on the charging loom (alternator/starter/main light switch) have been replaced with new ones with increased capacity.

The wiring harness has been care fully labeled in all its terminals.  It is included a main fuse box, to reduce installation time and to avoid errors.

I am dedicated to my hobby with Mercedes Benz and it’s electrical systems.

Anyone interested in rebuilding his own wiring harness to keep originality or because lack of new options for his particular car, contact me. I will help you in all the process.

Base rate for a main harness rebuilt service USD 1,000.

Particularly interesting are those cars for which is impossible to source a new harnesses as: w108/109/111 and 112 coupes or sedans.  Plenty of experience on those.

Also can manage more complex cars as w111-3.5 and similar motorized cars.

Modifications to main harness to accommodate newer technologies or options that came on later Mercedes cars are also feasible. Examples:

1. Adding a hazard relay sub wiring harness. Eliminating original flasher
2. Modifying charge system to use more modern internally regulated alternators like Bosch AL66X, and increasing charge capacity
3. Modifying Ignition circuitry to use later original Mercedes transistorized ignition, which still uses ignition points, as a triggering device instead as a high current passing through element, increasing therefore lifetime expectancy by 400% and keeping the original look and distributor.
4. TTS override circuitry
5. Electrical wiper pump managed from the foot mechanical pump.
6. Low brake fluid circuitry
7. Buzzer system when lights are left on and ignition is off

And creativity is the limit.

For those not worried about originality can embebed alarm systems into the original wiring harness and make it unnoticeable.

I am in the process of restoring my 1970 280SL and will want to either restore or replace my harness.  My harness looks good, but in my experience with restoring Corvettes, it is better to replace the old harness with a new one.  I've seen a few Corvettes burn up due to old harnesses.  What is it you do to restore harnesses and how much would it cost me to have my old harness restored?  Is your restored harness ready to go for installation upon receipt?  My car has an auto trans and is LHD.  Thanks for any information you can provide.

Recent Air conditioner wiring harness custom made

See attached pictures from a recent sub wiring harness I made from scratch for a customer in SINGAPURE who had an aftermarket a/c system on his w108 RHD but wanted a professional approach for it now that he is restoring the car.

The logic is this:
1. 1x main power relay taking energy directly form post T30 at the battery
2. 1x change over relay cutting power to main relay when engine is being cranked
3. 1x relay controlling the condenser electrical fan
4. Electrical condenser fan is triggered by radiator water temperature reaching the desired level via an adjustable thermocouple and also triggered by refrigerant pressure reaching a predefined threshold
5. Compressor protected against refrigerant gas escape cutting it off if that happens
6. Auxiliary fuse box for the system.

The harness comes without connectors and accesories.  It requires work to be operational, work that I can do that with pleasure for you at a reasonable cost.  Just PM to study and quote your particular case.

Another project just finished for a happy customer in Peru.

This is a w111-220SE coupe wiring harness converted to run on zenith carburetors with electric choke.  Has a relay for the engine bay inline electric pump, at a much lower pressure than the original pump placed below  the trunk area, and with a safety inertia switch which will cut power to it in case of collision.

Just finished a project that some may consider not respectful of car roots, but I just helped the customer to solve the situation created by previous owner.

This is the case of a W108-280SE fuel injected that lives in Dominican Republic.  This car as lives in a place where not many mechanically fuel injected Mercedes specialist exist, so at some time of its history they decided to switch the originally FI M130 engine for a diesel OM617. 

Of course actual owner of the car received the heritage of some engineering errors made during that conversion.  And nevertheless the engine works, the control part of the pre-glow system and the engine shutoff system is failing.

At the beginning I though this was an usual w108 wiring harness restoration.  The complexity came after once the owner told me about the w123 Diesel engine conversion.

The implementation of that engine conversion brought some new problems, as the heat generated by the turbo compressor which affects the performance of the original A/c system.  On all w108 the refrigerant high and low pressure refrigerant hoses are run trough the right side of the engine.  The proximity with the turbo generated and undesired excessive  heat exchange.  Therefore, to make it work it right, all components will have to be moved to the LEFT SIDE, and as a consequence the original A/c wiring harness has to be modified or remade. The later was the solution taken.

Originally the pre-glow system used on this conversion came from a w115 where the pre-glow plugs are connected in series.  That was changed to the logic used on w123 300D from year 1980 up where a new kind of pre-glow relay is used that connects the new style (faster) pre-glow plugs in parallel.

A new instrumentation cluster that came from a w115-75 was included on the project which made me change the instrument cluster connector pin positioning (pin re mapping) to make it work properly. W115 from that year used electric signals for the temperature gauge, and also has a diesel glow plug light indicator.

The engine didn’t shutdown when turning engine to the off position, maybe because of a mis adjusting of the fuel cutoff cable, and customer asked me to give it an electric solution, so a Normally closed fuel cut off valve was added.

According to DHL my harness is in customs at Valencia, so hopefully, once it clears it will go out for delivery. I am hoping that happens today.

We had a power cut as a consequence of a sky lighting that lasted 32 hours.  The  event occurred on a major 13.5KV substation that feeds energy to more than half the city were I live (1.5 million people) and therefore there were no phones, no internet etc.

I used the standby briggs&stratton generator installed at home for short periods no longer than 2 hours to have basic things running as the fridge etc.  But no phones and no internet.

We are Ok,thanks for asking.

Some weeks ago, I finished an interesting project on which a custom wiring harness was built for a customer in Germany.

This guy bought an original W109 300SEL 6.3 which was terrible rotten at a point that he decided to buy another car with similar structure to pass all the 6.3 stuff to that body.

He sourced a nice perfect body 1972 W109-4.5.   

At the beginning he thought he could transplant everything from one car to the other.  When he faced the electrical part noticed that the 6.3 harness didn’t fit, specially on the cabin side as many accessories are on different places ….. , and therefore he contacted me.

He sent me to Venezuela both harnesses and wanted me to build the best of both.

Customer wanted to keep the AC system present on the 4.5 harness, so I decided to keep that harness as the base of the custom project.

As you all may know the 4.5 cars all were fuel injected with a Bosch D-jetronic system, with an ECU on the right engine bay fender, and a separated engine control harness which takes the reading for various combustion variables and do control the electric injectors.

Well all those systems and relay terminals had to be removed from the 4.5 harness.

On the other hand, basic things as the position of the alternator and ac compressor were opposite on the 6.3 compared to the 4.5

That made me to built from scratch all the charging system, and reposition the signals and relays that control the AC system.

The 6.3 has an array of relays to control the cold engine startup on the left fender close to the vacuum booster.  All that was build from scratch NEW in order to have reliability. The shortcut will have to take those lines and elements from the old 6.3 harness, but I decided to take the long way, the quality way…..

A 6.3 harness has a 12 pin connector on the center of the firewall where the engine control harness is plugged in.  That was build as well including some new signals that were not on the original design as is a line for the temperature sender.

The central instrument cluster branch and connector from the 4.5 was altered to fit the tachometer installed on a regular 6.3 central instrumentation, as well as a novelty which was to have an electrical signal driven temperature gauge.  The customer bought an instrumentation circuit board coming from a late w114 sedan (1973 onwards) which came with that option.

The automatic transmission control on a 4.5 is totally different from a 6.3 so that part was build from scratch again to resemble the 6.3 harness.

Well those were the most important changes made to that 4.5 harness to work properly with the 6.3 engine train.
