Our cars still have serious street cred
« on: May 10, 2021, 22:43:42 »
My daughter’s boyfriend bought a late 2000’s BMW on the weekend for cheap and after we spent a couple hours cleaning it, he called up some car friends to meet at the top of a local mountain for pictures.  The mountain is a bit of a car hangout where burnouts and loud accelerations take place just because you can.  There are even a couple corners where one can “hang the rear end out a bit” and there are usually people set up to take pictures of the hooliganisms.

He headed up and I decided to follow in my old car with other daughter so as not to cramp their style.  We got up there and there were the usual tuner cars including older BMWs, Mercedes, Subarus and Hondas with carbon fibre goodies, spoilers, big exhausts and flashing leds.  We pulled up a bit past the main crowds and as soon as we stopped and placed the cars for photos, a crowd appeared around my pagoda and phones started snapping pics – can I open the hood?  What is the ratio on your diff?   Limited slip and a 4 speed – really?  Fuel injection in the 60’s?  Love those headlights….

It was great.  And they couldn’t believe that an old guy like me knew answers to all the questions.

A++, those kinds of questions and comments NEVER get old! And you can never get old right along with them.

Great story Ian!   My next door neighbor owns a Porsche GT3. My 50 y/o Pagoda (older than my neighbor) gets far more admiring comments and far more snapshots too.  We Pagoda-owning geezers stand united with pride!

Amen to that !
There is a group of McLarens, Lambos etc that catch up each weekend at my local coffee place. But like the rest of you, my 230SL draws the admirers away from these exotics !

Long may our pagodas reign  8)
