How to look cool whilst practicing social distancing.
I’ve been using my Pagoda as my daily drive to the office - here’s a photo in the normally full office car park. ( parking lot ).

Naturally the short drive to and from work is the highlight of my day.

Hi Rob,

Great photo and with the parking lot so empty you don’t have to worry about others putting dings into your doors and fenders

I too have the removable hardtop on during the winter season, this year I will not remove the hardtop so that I can maintain social distancing with the windows rolled up ~smile~

I forgot how nice the car looks with its hardtop on. Last few years I haven't bothered putting it back on. We only put it on recently as we wanted to compare some minor detail to my Burgundy car that was recently restored. Mind you I'm glad it is on - not only because of the classic styling - because I wouldn't dare drive with my roof down at the moment. (It would not be a good look, under the lockdown conditions we are currently under.)
Australia seems to be in a fortunate position with respect to COVID-19 spread, so hopefully they will ease restrictions soon and allow us to simply "go for a drive" again. For now I can only legally drive my car if I am going to work or shopping, etc.

Hi Rob,

I feel exactly like you (about the roof), for the oast 2 years I’ve not removed the roof at all. I feel strongly with the roof on the car looks like a true Pagoda. One of my frends invited another Pagoda owner and myself for a Saturday drive, we politely declined for the time being. It is not worth the risk.

I sneak out here and then for a drive thru the park we have here in London, Ontario Canada, we don’t want to do it with 3 Pagoda’ s since our situation is similar to yours, only front line supporters are on the roads or folks that have to get food or medicine. It would not look right for 3 Pagoda’s to drive down the road.

BTW, do you know Garry Marks? He lives just outside Melbourne, Garry organizes Car’s and coffee meets during normal times.

Know Rob well and Rob comes on the cars and coffee drives. Wish we could do one now. It is a bit hard to drive to the car storage which is a few km from where i live then take the Pagoda and drive it to the supermarket and say i am just driving to the supermarket. My luck i would get pulled over. The fine here for not obeying lockdown is $1600 and they are writing up plenty.

As Rob said, our Corona deaths in total for Australia is only round 78 with 6600 infected and we only had 5 new cases today in Australia and they are then traced and tracked. All borders closed. We are doing ok and businesses appear to be working through it with Government support except Virgin airline who went into Administration but had massive debt to start with. Our testing testing testing for everyone wanting it appears to be working.

Hi Garry,

Looks like your Government and Health Department have it well under control. We can drive, no problem or fines there. Police is handing out tickets here if “Social distances is not not maintained” Linda and I are self isolated now for 5 weeks already we communicate with family and Friends via Skype. Grocery’s and medications are delivered. Some of my local Friends have been delivering groceries to us. We try to get not infected as you know I cannot be infected due to my health condition I’m suffering from shortness of breath as it is.

We are now allowed to visit our loved ones in the cemetery (sanity finally prevailed about a week ago). Both my parents passed in the last 5 years and where they now rest is a decent drive from house. I hope to visit them again this weekend - in whatever car I wish. (It wouldn't surprise me if our overly officious law enforcers pull me over - hoping to raise their revenue...…….they might cop an ear full if they do)

Rob,
I drove to Kyneton yesterday to have meeting re house build and there were cars out everywhere. You would have to be unlucky but a Pagoda would sure attract attention. It is sitting all opened up in a storage shed to dry as last time i had it in Melbourne about a month ago it got accidentally drenched in the front drivers side carpets, door and seat.

I've lost my license twice in the last 2 years due to (what our USA friends would call) slight speeding offences as I happened to open up one of my classics on a clear country road (yep I was caught doing 55 miles/hr on a country road and had my license suspended for 3 months + $550 fine)...…..so I already consider myself unlucky when it comes to attracting the attention of Victoria's finest.

Sorry to hear about the water logging - that would be painful to see.

Where you doing 55 mph when you got the ticket, or 55 over the limit ? ....

I'm enjoying the pictures of your Pagodas in the start concrete parking lot.

Hi Tim?

I was doing 55mph on a country road. (91km/h to be exact). The speed limit on most of the roads was 80km/h but I hadn't noticed it had changed to 60km/h because there was a country school ahead. However, this was early morning on a public holiday (Boxing Day). I was in the Porsche 911 and because it was a short hill I decided to open the throttle up the hill and back off at the top. Just as I hit my peak of 91km/h a police car driving the opposite direction came over the hill. I noticed he did a U-turn and caught up with me - informing me that he caught me (with some mobile radar in his car) at 91kmh in a 60km/h zone. He then informed me of new laws that came in to play a month earlier which meant (because I exceed the speed limit by more than 25km/h....say 15mph) that my license would be suspended for 3 months + $550 fine.
I tried to plead to his compassion to no avail.

This lead to an unfortunate chain of events...…...IE: Decided to ride a bicycle to work but on my trial run on a Sunday morning (to time how long it would take) my front wheel dropped into a Tram track causing my brand new bike to flip and I separated my shoulder which required 2 surgeries over the next 12 months.

Many thousands of dollars spent on Surgery, Rehab, Ubers, etc. …..Sleeping inclined for many months.... ( no legal recourse of any kind, not covered by Workcover as I was not riding to work).

My respect for Victoria's law enforcement is all but lost!

Shoulder is about 90% recovered now and I can pretty much do anything I did before.

Oh my goodness, that is a terrifying story. I'm so glad you are very close to "as good as new".
As you said by your comment "slight speeding" from the USA perspective. Victoria's law seems a little strict to me. The outcome for you going "slightly" over the limit is staggering.

And three of them Pagodas .... Speechless.
Too bad we can't hang out in each other's garages.
The Camaro makes for great stories. Since I bought it when I was 18, and I'm in my 60's now, I have a few stories to tell.
Thank goodness I didn't have to live by the Australian rules of the road when I was younger.
