Wiper blades refills?
« on: April 27, 2020, 19:57:30 »
I currently have Bosch 466 OEM (not OE) 12" wiper blades on my car. They are Bosch replacements for a 230sl.

One of the rubber inserts finally broke off.  I have a pair new ANCO 31-12 refills that fit perfectly for the Bosch OE blades but I just came to learn that the ANCO refills are much smaller than the Bosch OE blades.

Any ideas on where to get refills that will work?

Just to clarify:

OE - Original Equipment that came with the car (Bosch Original Style)
OEM - Original Equipment Manufacturer (Bosch Replacement Style)

Doing a little more research the Trico 47-600 & Trico 47-800 might fit.  I ordered them from O'reilly's and hopefully one of the will fit.

In the meantime, if anybody has these types of refills I would appreciate it if you could post a picture of the end profile (cross section).

Thanks

I have tried the following sets:

Trico 47-600
Trico 47-700
Trico 47-800

Unbelievablely, I found a set of original Bosch refills in my garage that I bought in Sept 19, 1994 from the local dealer at the time. All documentation was still taped to them😳 However they are still different (I bought the 466's a year ago) but usable.

PN 0008241227

While not exact,  the Trico 47-800 and my Bosch refills are the best fit for my Bosch 466 metal blades.  The PN 0008241227 is probably slightly better and still available. I have both.

A lot of effort for something I will never use in San Diego🤣 But at least it gave me something to do😷😷😷

BTW, anyone that is lucky to have your original wiper blades for at least 69 and above(maybe older).  The ANCO 12-31 are perfect👍

I have been using the Trico Teflon Blade 15-160. The blade itself fits after a minimal adjustment of the little bendable holders on the wiper arm.

Andy,

Can you post a close up picture (as above) of the cross section(profile) of your blade? I would be interested to see.  Thx

I hope you can make this out.
I had to replace my windshield (the original?) a few years ago. There were arc-shaped scratches on it from the wipers, among other blemishes.
With the new windshield I'm using Aquapel and these Teflon blades. Seems to be very smooth.

I also have been trying to track down suitable replacement wiper blade refills for my 1968 280SL. I have tried several options, including those available on Authentic Classics,
Mercedes-Benz and Bosch. I am the second owner of the car, which I purchased in 1994.  The recommendations in this and other threads concerning replacement wiper blades and refills are for 12 inch blades and refills. My blades, which look original and have not been replaced sine I have owned the car, are 328 mm, or about 12 7/8 inches. I know the wiper blades currently offered by M-B are approximately 11 inches and black. One suggestion on another thread was M-B part number A0008241227.  Those are about 12 inches, as are another suggestion on the same thread, Bosch H305.  All of these replacements are much thinner than my original rubber blades, except for the Authentic Classic ones, which are very close in size to my originals, except they are 11 inches long.

I finally searched the Bosch website, using vehicle make, model and year.  For a 1968 280SL, Bosch recommends Bosch DirectConnect 40513, which are 13 inches, so slightly long, but also narrow, requiring that the blade be pinched a bit so retain the rubber refill.  I replace the metal strips which came with the Bosch wiper blades with my originals.

I have attached some pictures to illustrate the different blades.

After all this, my question is, are my Bosch 328 mm wiper blades original?

I dont think the blades in your last picture are original to the car.  They have the pins in the side.  The Bosch replacement blades (like I have ) have the pins in the sides.  So you have correct replacements but not factory original.

But, I don't think 328mm is correct either.  Should be 305mm. I think there was a ~307mm for a short time.  I can remember.  It's in Pagoda Notes.

Vendors are selling the 13" (328mm or 330mm? ) versions. I don't think that blade length  was ever used on pagodas. I know people that use them but have to adjust the wiper arms so they don't collide during use.

One month ago I saw a pair of NOS Bosch 12" replacement blades on eBay from Germany. Matte chrome.  Correct replacement but not original.  $200

In the 5 minutes that I pondered buying they sold.  They were identical to my Bosch stainless but had the matte Chrome finish. Wasn't worth it for me.

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable can chime in.

I have tried to find refills for what I think are the original wipers on my 1966 230SL and have never found anything that worked.  These are 12 inches, have a bright finish and have pins on the sides.

A few months ago, I found a set of Bosch blades that I must have had for years but never knew it.  They have never been used and are still in the Bosch package.  The package is marked 0358 and the package says the are "12", 305 mm".  They say they are for "Mercedes Benz "250SL 3.67/12.67, 230SL, 280SL".  They also say the are for a "Lancia Flavia Coupe (10.66/69)".  Since the 280SL is listed and the Lancia says to 1969, I assume I bought them after 1969 but i have no idea when.  They are a matte finish and have no pins.  They are the same length as the ones that I think came with the car new.  I cannot find anything on the internet about Bosch 0358 but maybe somebody can.

I cannot remember the last time I used the wipers on this car but just in case I ever get caught in the rain, I have the black replacements so the windshield does not get scratched.  And I do not want to use the unused set I just found--saving them for "sometime".

Hope this adds to the knowledge base.

@mbpaul

Can you post pictures of your packaged set of Bosch wipers?

BTW, here is one vendor that sells the 13" stainless steel repro wipers.  Again, as far as I know 13" is incorrect.

Anthony also has the 330mm (13")  version.  He was a Pagodafest sponsor.  Ships to US.

The description says chrome but I seem to remember they are stainless.  Email him and double check.

I just removed the rubber out of my blades and replaced with this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MU6T680/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Just had to cut to length, and replace into the frame. Works fine.

Not bad for US$8
