Glovebox Spring Sleeves
« on: April 24, 2020, 19:21:12 »
My spring was bent on my glovebox causing a  lack of tension.

In replaced the spring and decided to sleeve it per the technical manual so i never have to worry about it.

https://www.sl113.org/wiki/Interior/Glovebox

Now have extra material so cut a few spares. If anyone needs one please let me know. Postage plus a donation towards flowers  for asking my wife to go to post office is all I ask.

Best

This works very well. Additional point may be: if your pipe is/comes out a bit lose on the spring and you worry it may rattle, I think it is ok to glue a bit of foam between the pipe/tube and the side of the box.

Hi Guys,
Or cover the tube with a bit of shrink sleeve.
In fact, I covered the spring with shrink sleeving.
Cheers

Chris, I am surprised the spring still works, that is, expands and contracts freely. 🤔

Yep Alfred, works fine. The shrink sleeving is not shrunk. The piece I used is just a nice fit, without interfering with the spring action and it does not cover the whole spring. Slightly shorter than the spring.

I purchased this sleeve from Arct1k.  It works great.  It was easy to install and makes for a very smooth spring action across the entire arc of the door swing.  A great fix and not visible.

Arct1k, a little late but did you ever do another batch of these? Would be useful whilst I have the glovebox out.

Thanks

Hi,

I would take a length too.  Rubber tubing and sleeve tends to deteriorate with the opening and closing.  Please let me know where to send the donation for the flowers!!

I actually just cut a few today when making one for myself.

I erred on the side of caution and cut them approx 44-45mm long.

I have eight spares that I can mail out. PM me and I'll try and figure out postage.

Thx to Arct1k for the inspiration to get off my ar5e and do it!

I took a piece of thin wall brass pipe and cut to length. I bought the pipe in one of the DIY stores.

Could not a piece of 5/16" (7.9mm) brake line be used as the sleeve?
