So sad to hear that the racing legend and big time Mercedes man Sir Stirling Moss has passed away peacefully.

RIP Sir Sterling.

Yes, Sterling surely was a racing legend.
He had a great relation to Mercedes-Benz. Came to end only since M-B withdrew from F1 racing after the 1955 racing season.

I recall the interesting Forum thread in 2019 about his personal, special order Pagoda; at that time car was in Ireland

I liked that film when they met with Lewis Hamilton: and old Master and the present Master, had a drive and had a chat...

A friend of mine sent me a quote that I think is applicable here,

Sir Stirling is the kind of person that was in mind for the phrase "Gentlemen start your engines!"

My Navigator and I went to the Formula 1 race held in Long Beach back in 1976. Before the actual race there was "old timer" event featuring Stirling Moss driving a '54 Maserati along with Juan Fangio, Carrol Shelby and Phil Hill among others. Dan Gurney "won" the race and It was a sight to see such legends all in one place drive those vintage racing machines. I took an 8mm movie of the event and I think I will dig out my old projector to watch Sir Stirling in action behind the wheel of that old Maserati.

OMG I knew he was not doing so well and was in a wheel chair to get around. My wife and I met this man and his wife in person at Sebring, some years ago. We use to work the race every year and was always invited to the preface dinner. That year Sir Sterling Moss was the Grand Marshall for the race. Well at the dinner my wife and I sat at a table that was unoccupied, well low and behold Sterling and his lovely wife as if it would be ok to sit at our table. WOW. He told us stories of his racing days and in particular driving the MB (#722) SLR in the Mille Miglia of 1955. People came up to our table asking for autographs and asking about his many race wins. Also asked what kind of car he was driving for the family car, a new Mini. What a class act he was. This was an experience that I will never top. So sad to loose a racing treasure.

He and his sister Pat inherited some pretty good racing genes:  His parents met at Brooklands, where his father raced in the 20's.  His mother raced and rallied a three-wheeled Morgan. While his father was studying in the U.S. in 1924 he entered and finished 16th at Indy.  Sir Stirling started on his life's path very young.  When he got his driving license at age 15 he bought his own Morgan.  By Age 17 he had an M.G. and by age 18 he had acquired a BMW 328, in which he won his class in his very first competition.

In the M.G. fraternity April 12th is remembered as the birthday of the father of M.G., Cecil Kimber.  This year's celebrations became rather somber when it was learned that Sir Stirling passed away on the morning of April 12th.
