1970 280SL Value / 4 Speed
« on: November 13, 2019, 18:15:20 »
Looking to dig deep into all 113 280SL masters for a $$ valuation .
its a 1970 / 4 Speed
39,400 Miles ( very little documentation but very clean, original carpets, drivers side excellent with OE 113 serial numbers )
MB Tex excellent condition - seats a bit low ( Due to age )
No trunk rust - Original Phoenix spare ( Never On Car, all stripes etc. )
The issue - It was painted once, lousy job ( Back when Earl Scheib painting was considered good ) - cracking paint.
No A/C
Good chrome - not perfect
Needs simple stuff , shiftier bushings, exhaust, tires
all welds, dimple intact
Car drives great.

Thoughts from the 113 audience appreciated.

I recommend you check on Hagerty using there value tools. Based on what you saw and inspected and what needs to be done, you should be able to judge the car as a no 2, 3 or 4 etc. From what you described (paint etc.). I think it might be  no. 4

Good Luck

Dieter

I always say that if the vehicle does not have very very clear documentation proving the milage then dont judge it as original milage for a start.

Having said that, I am with Dieter, the Hagerty valuations are a good guide and it is most likely a No. 4 car if the paint is not good. A really good paint job  alone can cost tens of thousands and just getting it apart to paint properly and then back together after can add another ten thousand or more dollars.

Thanks everyone,
In fact its mine already, all things considered ( many originally hoses, areas that would show wear are consistent with a 34,000 mile car ) and no rust, Id say a #3 with paint #2

Hard to say w/o pictures.

If absolutely NO RUST, interior good (no rips, cracks) and engine compartment is somewhat clean, I'd say anywhere between $45-52k.

ALso assuming top is good.
