another Auftrags question
« on: July 27, 2020, 15:31:32 »
Is there any source to find dealer codes from the "'60's"
For my '65 230sl": My Auftrag number 42211397
I believe the 4- indicates ordered in 1964
221 Germany?
1397 which dealer?

My "zertifikat" indicates destination of delivery as (Koln) Cologne Branch.  I like many have tried to trace original owners to no avail.  Getting to a specific dealer would add to my cars genealogy

Any sources of further info, someone can point me to?

JB: I did some investigation based on earlier info you posted. I ran into dead ends. My "government" contact in Germany could not find an avenue to track down earlier owners and I never received an answer from the current "Köln-Düsseldorf" Mercedes dealership as to who was an active dealer in Cologne back then

Thank you Mike for your zealous diligence. Maybe someone else may have purchased their car at dealer

Although I have the history of my car, i.e: year, dealership, etc documented elsewhere, I looked at my data card and sure enough: There is another weird issue. The "Auftrags-Nr/ Order-No" on the data card reads: 217-4464. It does not start with a leading 0 for 1970 and has a dash between dealer/contry code and serial sequence no.  Anybody seen anything like this?
I know it was sold through the "Niederlassung Frankfurt". First owner was a fur dealer who bought it as a Christmas present for his wife.
