M127 gasket set

I’m looking at the gasket sets for the M127 engine. I plan to buy all at once and be done with. How about this one here;

There is no actual listing of what is included. Anybody purchased the above set recently?
Or maybe came across a better set?

Elring gaskets have a good reputation and so does the seller Alexander.
Seems pricey though, maybe shop around.

Elring is the original OEM supplier. And the sets can be found on ebay, sometimes.

You won't always get a full set. Some will have valve cover gasket and valve stem seals while many will not.  Ask to be sure. They're available separately anyway.

Try to avoid "new old stock" supplies of head gaskets, since most recent production batches of head gaskets are made with improved materials and improved design changes. For instance, new batches may have a red sealant strip along the spark plug side of gasket, where as, some original (new old stock) head gaskets without, tended to seep coolant after some years of use.

Can you please point some out for me? Who would be the manufacturer of the new style gaskets?

Mark, it is not specific to a certain manufacturer.  In other words, Elring's head gaskets made ten years ago, may not be the same in construction and design as Elring's fresh head gaskets made this year. The date of production is the factor in this instance. In any case any good quality manufacturer should provide a product which will work, however it is always best to get the "latest and greatest version" when possible, for best results and longevity.

I spent some time studying the Elring catalogs and materials used. That’s all excellent knowledge. Going back to the M127.981 engine there is the reference 1604 and 1616 for the M129.982. Any idea on how to determine the type/style of gasket from there?

I examined my old head gasket and there was definitely no sealant strip on it. This leads me to believe that it was exactly what you said - new old stock. Would you happen to have the part number for the latest gasket style?

I found this page on the Elring site but their head gasket photo shows no red sealing stripe (of course it may be an old obsolete photo):

By the way I think you would be exempt from the 19% VAT if purchasing from outside Europe. But shipping would probably add that back.

Dave, I see now that the references are with regards to the catalog page numbers where further information is provided. My iPad reader counts differently so that the numbers did not correspond to the proper page.

My set arrived from SLS Germany yesterday. Lightning fast service from UPS.
Really well packed, an elephant could step on it.  and it would still survive.

Just a brief look shows a lot of made in Germany prints. All crucial components are of the Elring brand.

Hi guys, just a quick question . The original mb head gasket it’s made by papaer and iron in the cylinders or it’s a different quality ?

I think there is a thin sheet of steel through the entire gasket, inside the fibreboard material.

Here's an image of an old head gasket with corroded internal steel. It's a poor photo but you can see the laminated construction. I believe this is an MB gasket but the aftermarket ones are probably made the same way.
As Joe A says, your best option is probably a recent-production gasket with the red sealing strip on the spark plug side.
