For Sale: The Bow Buddy
« on: October 14, 2019, 21:41:36 »
My wife made the "Bow Buddy" for my car and several others for PagodaFest.  She has a couple of them left.

If you have ever dropped the soft top bow back into the compartment you know how a knuckle busting chore it is to get back out. We designed this helper strap to solve the problem.

The Bow Buddy is made out of 4 panel seat belt webbing that is similar to the original pagoda seat belts.  It has a reinforced ABS plastic that hooks on the back soft top hook.

Before storing your soft top just hook on the Bow Buddy and stow the soft top.  The next time you need to raise the soft top just grab the strap.  Voila!  No more bow falling back down to get stuck.

The price  is a deal at $20 plus shipping.

Please PM if interested.  Once they are gone, they are gone.

My wife just wanted to thank everybody for the great response to the Bow Buddy.  She hopes it comes in handy (Pun intended  :o :o :o ::) )

She wanted to give a tip for the first use of the Bow Buddy.  The opening of the hole that goes over the soft top hook will be initially very snug.  This is the intended design so it will not slip off in the future.

The best way to place it on the soft top hook is to stand on the driver's side (LHD), place the Bow Buddy on the hook and pull toward you.  It may take some wiggling initially for the first install but after that you will be good to go  ;D

There seems to be a resurgence for the need for the "Bow Buddy"  ;D   Price will still be $20 plus shipping.

Please PM me before June 1, 2021  if you would like one or more.  If there is enough interest my wife and I will make another batch.

Thanks

If you would like to get a head start and PM me your shipping address that would help 👍

mrfatboy,
If you ship any to Canada I would avoid using the USPS.  I just sent a soft top screw to Canada from Cleveland.  It sat in Chicago for over 3 weeks then took another week to cross the border. 5 total weeks in transit.  Canada Post did slightly better taking only 3 days from Ontario to the west coast.

Update:

Thank you for everybody's orders.  The response was more than I ever thought.  I ordered the materials plus a little extra just in case there are some Johnny Come Lately's ;) These are first come first served!

What happens next:

We should receive the materials next week and start working on them immediately.  Once I have a couple made I need to figure out all the shipping costs. I have orders from almost every continent. I guess penguins don't need Bow Buddies :o  I'm not looking forward to filling out all the customs forms  ::)

I will PM everybody how many they ordered, final cost plus shipping, and the shipping address I have on record.  I would like to receive payment from everybody before I ship.  I only want to make one trip to the Post Office.  So it benefits everybody if you pay promptly.  Hopefully these will all go out mid June.

I accept PayPal (Friends & Family) Only.  (No credit cards).  This is a hobby not a business. ;D

Thanks again.

For all you old f--ts who want to buy one or more, I couldn't make my ipad internet version or desktop version of paypal send money to Friends and Family.  I had to download the ipad app version to get it to recognize Friends and Family.  It finally worked.  I'm getting too old to keep up with technology.

It could be that my living in Canada had an effect.  Up to item 3) everything was fine.  The selection opportunity for Item 4) never appeared even after I changed my payment preference from my credit card to my bank account so I started looking for another alternative.  I found and downloaded the iPad App, then everything was relatively easy from then on.
I'm reasonably sure that evolution of technology in conjunction with my personal evolution created an incompatibility.  All is good now.
Anyway, I am looking forward to receiving my Bow Buddy.  This is a great service to the members.

Tom Kizer

I had problem too to start with. I think PalPal have changed the format so not so easy to pick friends and family, probably so they can get more fees!!!

There seems to be some people that are having problems with PayPal.  First and foremost,  in order to send CASH via Friends & Family (Personal) YOU MUST have a bank account linked to your PayPal account.  I will not accept credit card payments.

In order to link a bank account to your PayPal account please go to paypal.com, sign in and follow the instructions to do so.

I can accept Zelle also if you have that.  If all else fails please PM me and we can try to work something else out.

Now with all that said. There seems to be differences between PayPal on a desktop computer or logging into PayPal.com on an phone versus using the actual app one the phone.  I witnessed it yesterday on a friend's phone.  So try the app!

Bow Buddies are currently being made :o

Thanks again.

Update:

The first wave of Bow Buddies were sent out today.  Both Domestic & International packages.

I'm still waiting on payment from others that have ordered.  If you contacted me, my wife made one for you and is taking up space on my dining room table ;)

Some people are still struggling with PayPal.  I will not accept payments being made by Credit Card.  I will Instant Refund you if you do and then you must try again sending Cash via a linked banked account.

The common problems seem to be:

1) User error
2) Don't have a back account linked to PayPal (Follow instruction at PayPal.com to link your bank account)
3) Bank Debit cards are considered Credit Cards and WILL NOT WORK!!!!
4) Difference in PayPal in a browser or in an App (iphone, ipad, etc)

It's not the preferred solution but if all else fails some people have sent a check by snail mail.  Please contact me if that is the case.

Thank you

People should start receiving their Bow Buddies soon.

I find it easiest to place on the soft top pin from standing on the left had side of card. Place the Bow Buddy on the hook side and pull it onto the pin.  The Bow Buddy is meant to fit very snug on the pin so it won't fall off. After a couple of tries it becomes easy.

Enjoy!

Today is a good Pagoda day:  Bow Buddy delivered today, along with the Pagoda World book!  I think I'll cap it off by taking the Pagoda for a little spin this evening before grilling some Salmon for dinner!

The rest of us are jealous, anticipating a weekend devoid of bow buddy or pagoda world book; or salmon for that matter.

However, I did just take my pagoda out for a short spin... ;)

I just received mine here in Quebec.  It fits great and, believe it or not, as I was holding the top partly out of the compartment to install the Bow Buddy, the iower bow separated and fell back into the compartment.  I just fished out the Bow Buddy strap (already attached) and lowered the rest of the top back into the compartment, ready for the next roof raising event.

The next item that needs inventing is a clip (two required) to keep the canvas top rear corners folded under while lowering the top into the storage compartment.  After manually folding one side under, when I try to fold under the other side, the first side pops out.

Additionally, is there any way to retain the "folds" at the B-pillar to hold them out of the way during the lowering of the bows into the soft top compartment and prevent them from damaging the seal felt?  I have the plastic sheets to protect the felt but they don't do a perfect job.

Thanks for the Bow Buddy.  It's a great invention.

I have not seen this [device in person] to see how useful it is.

Perhaps if it is, we can have them made by someone else besides “he who shall not be named”… [name redacted]

After all, we've had books, badges, pins and embroidered patches made, so this doesn't seem like much of an issue.

That's rectified, Alfred.  Spectrum, now merged with Charter, decommissioned the entire @columbus.rr.com email domain without notice.  I've had that old "RoadRunner" email from 1997 in the Time Warner Cable days.  TV and internet were still working, but my primary email account disappeared without warning on Friday.  Incredibly frustrating.  Anyway, I've entered another address in my profile.

You guys who are still replying to this thread need to read more of the thread.  Look at which member made this product, then look at when he last contributed to this thread, and the comments made since.

I know these aren’t being made anymore - too bad, because it is a perfect invention for us having trouble with our soft tops. Just leaving a comment here in case the thread reopens, and a new batch is made.

At least there are photos so I can see if someone can make something similar!
