1969 280-SL ZF 5 Speed

Selling my Pagoda which I just do not drive enough.  No the ZF is not original to the car, but it is a vintage proper ZF (1024 401 042) replaced the original 4 speed in 1999. (I have that repair receipt).  I have records going back to 1999 and some history going back to 1990. I have owned it 10 years.  A really nice driver with very strong engine - runs and drives really well.  New carpet & visors finish a nice interior with leather seats and beautiful dash.  New front bumpers. Older repaint was not of "concourse" quality but looks good from 5'. Complete un-molested car for restoration or drive and enjoy as-is. known defects are noted here:
Features:
•   5 Speed ZF Vintage (age appropriate) transmission. Trans # 1025 401 042.  Not original to the car. The original 4-speed was switched out for the ZF in 1999 at 123,812 miles.
•   After-market “Buds Benz” type air condition unit.  Very common vintage unit found on most W-113’s not equipped with original dealer installed Fridge King units.  Looks similar to the Fridge King and operates well. Converted to R-134 in 2011
•   Paint Code 568 Signal Red body and hard top with Black Interior
•   Comes with Hard Top
•   Leather seats.  Build sheet shows MBTEX so may be replacement seat covers at some point.
•   New carpet set installed 2019
•   New front bumpers installed in 2019
•   New sun visors installed in 2019
•   Drives and runs beautifully.  One could just enjoy and drive this car as is without worry about minor road wear, or treat it to a restoration and greatly enhance the value.
•   The car is amazingly complete, and would be an excellent concourse restoration project

Known Issues:
•   Rust holes in drivers side floor pan discovered when I replaced the carpeting in 2019.  Floor pan is still solid but has a few holes after wire-brushing.  I have pictures.  I wire brushed and applied POR-15 to arrest further rust.  Realized someone will fully restore this car someday, so why replace one pan now.
•   Rust bubbles on the rear passenger side wheel well lip.  These were there when I purchased the car in 2009 and have not gotten any worse, but they are noticeable and unsightly.  When this car receives a restoration or re-paint these would be addressed. 
•   The paint looks good from 5 feet, but upon close inspection you can see that it was a re-paint that was done by a “less than concourse” shop.  Not all trim and hardware was removed for the repaint.  Looks good, but the car is probably due for a proper well prepped paint job or more extensive restoration down the road because of what it is.
•   Surface rust in the trunk (left side) was repaired by me and a new trunk lid gasket installed in 2014.  Trunk rust is very common and was not at all extensive or damaging.  The trunk floor may have been replaced by a past owner judging by the spot welds, but was done well.
•   Soft top frame is missing a spring and has a broken spring bracket on the passenger side.  This makes the top problematic to operate, but can be raised by grabbing the underneath bracket while lifting.  Lowers normally.  Soft Top is serviceable and keeps the car dry, but shows its age and would probably be replaced if the top frame were to be taken off and repaired.
•   Engine number does not match the build sheet, but is a true 280-SL 2.8 Liter OHC 6 Cyl. (130983)
•   After Market radio.  Original Becker am/fm USA unit is lost to history, but the dash opening is un-molested, and vintage replacements are available.

•   History unknown prior to 1990
•   7/10/90 oil change sticker from Midlothian VA showing mileage of 108,780
•   Purchased at some point by John Massey, Sullivans Island SC/(maybe Florida)
•   5-speed Transmission installed in Mt Pleasant SC 6/07/99 at 123,812 (Massey)
•   Purchased 11/1/05 by Michael Carmody, Mt Pleasant, SC (130,571)
•   Purchased by me 06/07/09 (143,900)

•   (148,530) Tune up including points/condenser/rotor and new NGK BP6ES plugs, Oil/Filter & Transmission Oil Change, Chassis Grease
•   (148,526) New Carpet Set, New Sun Visors and New Front Bumpers
•   (148,520) New Flex Brake Lines (all 4 wheels) Brake Fluid Flush, Clutch Fluid Flush
•   (148050) Adjust Injection Pump & linkage
•   (147,570) 4-Wheel complete Alignment
•   (146,752) New shift lever bushings (ZF 5 Speed)
•   (146,590) New kingpins/bushings upper & lower pivot kits, new front Bilstein shock absorbers

That is an excellently presented advertisement and a good honest description and reasonable price.  Just what we like to see here in the For Sale area.

The car is sold.  Thanks for viewing and for the calls I got.  I will remain a sl113 member though I only retain a lowly R107.
