« on: December 19, 2018, 22:46:59 »
This was sent to me by my neighbour, Tommy Steel's daughter, the day he took the delivery of the car.

Great pic

Though if I were being pedantic I’d say a B-plate car was from 1964
I am sure Mr Steele was very happy with it

No side mirrors?

Would love to know the colours - not so common to have a two-tone car where the roof is lighter colour than the body (I know they did have them).

First registered in June 1964 and was still being used until recently according to its MOT history.
I wonder if the current owner knows of its provenance!
I wonder what the earliest RHD car was?

I've seen original cars and the fit and finish was far better than you might expect as can be seen in this photo.

I'll bite. Who is Tommy Steel?

He was/is a famous singer from the 60s.
I just googled him and found that in 1982 he made a statue for the City of Liverpool call "Eleanor Rigby" after the Beatles song. Further reading tells me that The character was an entirely fictitious creation of John and Paul but in a graveyard very near their childhood homes there is a grave in the name of one, "Eleanor Rigby".
It's amazing what you can find out in a few moments these days!

At that time, a passenger-side mirror was optional in the States.

But this is a RHD car (is it not?) - hence, no drivers side mirror?

Outside mirrors were not standard equipment back then.  One or both had to be specified when the car was ordered, or were dealer installed later.  At least one of photos posted elsewhere in these Forums of Pagodas that Stirling Moss drove in period shows the driver's door with no outside mirror.
