Service books
« on: March 22, 2018, 18:37:22 »
Does anyone know if there are reproduction service books available from anywhere for those of us who are not lucky enough to still have an original with their car ?

The factory sells quite a selection of literature for our SL:s and other older M-B. See here:

What service books are you referring to? The generic ones for the period, with either a sedan or coupe on the cover that are meant to keep a record of the service done on the car? These are relatively easy to find. If it is just for to make the set of books look complete, they are out there.

I took a look at the MB website as Hans mentioned, but did not see one specific for the 113. All the rest on the MB page referenced a particular model. The ones in the day, I believe, did not.

An unused original one would be quite a find.

Or a service manual for doing the work?

Thank you Hans for the link.

Jonny, i was referring to a service book for recording when the car was serviced and was wondering if there was a specific one for the 113 's, it seem's not but what do other people have who still have their originals, are they just generic ?

Yes, generic for the period. Shared with W108/109/111 and after 1968; also with W114/115. See pic attached

As Hans indicates the 113 service booklet was generic.  Below is a picture of the front and the back of my original booklet.  Please note that the original owner (at least in the USA, and at the time of my purchase) would have also received a service data plate to be used by the dealer when providing service. The printing on the back of my book also included "Mercedes Benz of North America, Inc.  Service Department."  This appears to have been over-printed on the booklet as it slightly overlaps the "Daimler-Benz AG" line on the back cover.

The booklet actually has a plastic cover as can be seen and contains a slide in pocket on the back for the data plate.  Also attached is a picture of the mirror image of the data plate.

Some of the books I have purchased over the years (trying to find an unused one) have also had the VIN number punched through the book. I am traveling but will try to remember to post a photo.

The generic books did change over the course of the 113 production. Some had the profile of the 111 coupe and some had the sedan. Not sure which ones came first. It may be listed in the description of literature that was published in Pagoda Notes and Pagoda World several years ago.

I did take a look at the service books I have accumulated, and was in error about the punch through. The punch through of the VIN was on the Service and Warranty booklet (with the metal data plate). The service books are generic for the period.

The 111 coupe was used on the ~1965 and earlier, the sedan was on the 1966 and later.
