Virgina PUB 2017 Whose Coming from Where???
« on: August 16, 2017, 20:33:53 »
Hi All Virginia PUB Attendees,

We generated the attached file so you may have an overlook as to who is coming form your area in case you like to organize to travel as a group. If so you then can contact the individual in question by e-mail, from the Members section of the website.

The list is broken down into whose coming from where, from the North, NorthEast, South, SouthWest, East and SouthEast.  Those flying to Virginia PUB are not included on the list.

My apologies, if someone accidently got left off the list.

Thank You for Attending Virginia PUB 2017.

Alex

The folks From Columbus are planning to Drive starting at about 10:30am Thursday the 14th.  This includes Allan George, Joe Alexander and Mike Mizesko.  We plan to return noonish on Sunday the 17th.

John K, Pete Lesler, Mike Salemi, Dan C., Dieter, Mike Romeo, Brad Badali...

Interested in either hooking up on Thursday in Columbus, or meeting in Ripley or Charleston, WV on I77?  We are probably taking Rt 33 to I 77 at Ripley WV, then I 64 to Charlottesville.

Please post your plans so we can coordinate.

It would make sense to meet at my place, cross the border, maybe meet up with Mike S. and then join in with Joe near Columbus.

I will be traveling from the north, first in an easterly direction then straight south. I will be leaving London sometime before Lunch on Wednesday September 13 and make my way via Niagara Falls into the US. I plan to drive about 400 KM on the first day. On Thursday September 14 I will drive the rest of the way to the B&B were I have reservations (some 36 miles north /east from the PUB site). On Friday September 15 after a nice Virginian breakfast :) I will drive to the PUB site to see if I can lend a hand with the set-up and final preparations on site for the event.

My Route will be 880 KM (to the B&B just north of Charlottesville) take me along  Canadian 401 E then 403 E merging with Queen Elizabeth express way to the border crossing at Niagara Falls. Then fairly straight south to my B&B north of Charlottesville.

At this point in time I am not sure if I will take my Pagoda or my Daily Driver (I will decide one week before leaving based on weather forecast condition and if I get the work done on my Pagoda), Whatever I take will be a fun drive.

Dieter

PS. During my working life and after I retired my cars always had a safe and quiet overnight stay at a B&B far away from the city and potential vandelisim and I will continue to stay at B&B’s when I travel with one of my treasures :)

I'm heading down from Brampton and going pretty much the same route as you Rolf-Dieter. Trying to decide whether to go straight south through the Allegheny's or to stay on the interstates. I'll decide when the time is closer which route I'll take, depends on my confidence level with my Pagoda.

I'm planning on leaving Thursday afternoon and staying somewhere in Penn, not sure where exactly yet. Plan on arriving some time after lunch.

I'm staying at a B&B that is 1 mile from PUB, just around the corner that I found on AirBnB that had great reviews.

Although I and some of the other Georgia and Alabama members were labeled as Southwest, my amd possibly other's travel plans may more closely align with the Southeast members. As I intend to break the trip into two legs, it will be a matter of planning to catch up with a caravan, particularly on Friday. I will either stop in South Carllina and resume travel early enough to say, join up with the Florida or GA/AL contingent or travel on the first day to a meeting point in NC in order to meet up early with that group or some combination of the above. At this point, my plans are quite flexible and fluid, so if any of the afore mentioned groups begin to formulate a caravan opportunity, please keep me and the other GA and AL folks in the loop.

Thanks,

My present plan is to leave Birmingham with my better half, Flora, and arrive Charlottesville Wednesday afternoon/evening.  Peter March is not coming from Birmingham as listed but is scheduled to arrive from Italy on Thursday.  I plan to meet his flight at Dulles and drive back to Charlottsville.

Traveling this early in the week I will not likely encounter any of the caravans from the southwest or southeast. Looking forward to the event!

It looks like no one will be driving through from my area so I'll likely go it alone and try to meet everyone in Columbus. Joe, what time are you planning to leave?

Hi Dan,

I am just riding along. It looks like our group is leaving Central Ohio Thursday morning and driving the six and a half hours to PUB the same day. A stop-over in Charleston WV would work for you I'm sure, but its not my call this time. Your probably about five and a half hours from our starting point.

I'm leaving 10:00 Saturday night From just West of Cleveland driving most the night to be there at least by 9:AM Sunday. Yes sounds pretty stupid but its a long story. I will be spraying my car soon and this is the best opportunity to help me decide which color I like the best. Tough choice.

I'm not sure if any of you have used Glympse. It's a free location sharing app for both Android & iPhone platforms.

Anyone who uses it can do it easily and it's not complicated to use.

If you install and want to use it, I suggest we use the Public Tag of "pub2017" . By using it, anyone else using the same tag will be able to see each others location. This could be useful for planned caravans with meeting way points, or impromptu caravans since you see another near by.

Just a thought . I'll turn my Glympse on using the Tag.

While this might be great for family and close friends to use I don't think I'll use it in a public available setting. Are we not concerned about security at all?

Do you really like to advertise where your Pagoda is at all times?

Just my 2 cents.

You share for a period of time and then your location is not viewable.

Your location is only shared with people who are using the tag, and only for as long as you set the timer for.

My plan is, if my leg is going to take 5 hours say, I'll set it for 6-7 hours. You can't easily make it stay on longer then 12 hours and once off, there is no trace in the public tag mode.

We use it on cruise nights here in the GTA, so if we start, others can figure out how to catch up to us without phoning and texting.

Only use if you feel comfortable. But I also thought that if I see someone in general proximity, I'd slow down or take a break and see if they caught up, or if they've ahead of me, maybe not stop and reasonably try and catch up.

Can you provide the instructions on how to join this private group.  I went on to see if I could figure it out and it's not intuitive to me.

Sure Tom,

So you start up the Glympse App, you should see yourself on the map and not much else. Top left is the menu, click on it and scroll to the bottom, and select Add a tag.

When you enter a tag name, only someone else using the same tag name as you've entered and active will see each other. So if you enter pub2017 in the tag name field. If no one else is using the tag is will say that, but go ahead and hit share. ( it may not, I'll turn mine on for 12 hours so you can see me ).

Next screen you can set a destination and use the dial to set duration of being visible. You can also save this as a Favorite, so you don't have to enter everything again. Then hit Share. It will say completed. hit back to get rid of the message.

Now you should be back to the map., you'll notice the tag name at the top and the top right arrow pulsing, that tells you it is sharing your location.

I will be flying United from Chicago on Friday morning and arriving in DC (DCA) around noon.

Renting a car and should arrive at PUB 2107 around 3 PM.

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone there. I have not been to PUB since 2009.

Frank,

Looking forward to seeing you again.  That's a long break from PUB and we plan to have a full program to enjoy.

For others coming, most of our communication related to PUB matters is happening via direct emails.  This way communication is targeted to those registered and help ensure that even if you are not monitoring this forum, you know what is going on and being offered.  That being said, a couple of updates for all via this forum:

1.  We don't expect any meaningful impact from Hurricane Irma and our thoughts are with those in Florida and Georgia that will take the brunt of the storm.

2.  The current forecast for next weekend in Greenwood, Virginia is spectacular-dry and sunny with moderate temperatures during the days and cool evenings.  Don't forget to bring a light sweater or jacket for the cool nights.  The fire pit might be engaged!

3.  We have a few slots (5) open for our excursion to Monticello-please send me a PM if you are coming to PUB and want to go to Monticello with our group.

4.  Similarly, we have about 7 slots available for the wine tasting during PUB at a nearby vineyard.  Again, send me a PM if interested.

5.  For those interested in coming but were not able to get a ticket, please go to the site and join the waitlist.  I expect some will cancel at the last minute and we will be able to offer slots to those that can come.  Also, if you did not sign up for the Cocktail Party on Friday night and want to come, you can still buy a ticket for cocktails.  Here is the link for both regular ticket wait list and the Cocktail Party:

  https://www.eventbrite.com/e/pub-2017-virginia-tickets-29964438442

6.  If someone that registered is not coming and gave you a ticket, I will need to get an email from the registered participant and you will need to check in with me and sign a manual liability waiver.  Please make these arrangements with me *before* you arrive at Ramsay Farm.

Thanks and we look forward to another great PUB adventure at Ramsay Farm.

Best,

Tom
