I have a immaculate steering wheel that I was going to use for my 66 230SL . I just noticed that it's different than what I currently have on my 230SL . looking for input on what vehicle this steering wheel goes on . Thanks for the input .

Looks like a Type-III wheel for a 280SL; see here: https://www.sl113.org/wiki/Interior/SteeringWheel

The bottom section (black area) looks just like my 280 SL (1968 assembled in Germany) registered as a 1969 in the US.

It would be helpful to measure the lower outside diameter (I will measure the lower outer circumference later today to see how it compares to yours).

If it is for sale I'll be very interested to purchase it from you.

I have to agree with Alfred, see photo attached from the link Alfred provided your 2nd photo sure looks like the attached photo for the matching / mating assembly area.

Dieter

PS. I am somewhat confused you mentioned in your post you have a 230SL, however, to the left under your user ID and in your Profile you show to have a 280SL 1968. If you have both cars, how does the lower area of your last photo compare to the 280 SL ?

Also late 250sl, Above vin 2980. On a North American car the horn ring would be satin "matte" instead of bright chrome as in the pics.

I owe both cars but on my 69 the steering wheel is black . I have to compare the steering wheel with 69 to see the difference . I thought it would an easy swap on the 66 . I haven't looked into selling the white steering wheel as I'm not aware what it's worth . Thanks for your input and I'll see how much different if any the 69 black steering wheel  is to the white steering wheel .

Just to be sure - does a 280 steering wheel fit a 230 from 1966? (I can see that mine is a late 230) I have found a fine looking 280 steering wheel that I would like to use in my 1966.

Thanks:)

A 280 SL steering wheel will not fit any of the 230 SLs or the early 250 SLs (as Tyler noted, the changed of the wheel was at 2980). This was the USA mandate for the crushable safety steering wheel. The mounting is very different.

Ivory colored steering wheel?
Probably in very good original condition ...?
Hard to come by - but possible.

This is what black-red-ivory would look like.
