Soft top release cable installation

Hi Folks,

I am new to this Forum and Pagoda's, albeit I have made good progress thanks to a series of issues 

I am trying to install a new soft top release cable since the old one broke but I can't find anything on installing this. It looks so simple but I can''t get the tension right to release the left side. The Chrome handle will not tighten either since the thread has worn. I have tried putting a new thread on the chrome handle but this wears off again.

Help please as it is driving me mad!
