You might wonder why this thread exists. Well when I took on the task in January 2016 to mail out a Welcoming Package to New Full Members that have joined our Group, I thought it to be a nice idea to let everyone know who joined and where they are located (country or state-wise). I also include in the listing(s) International New Full Members, however, the Welcoming Package is posted by Garry Marks our Vice President and Membership Administrator located in Australia. Please help us in welcoming our New Full Members as I update this list.

Our Welcoming Package consists of a Letter from our President, a sample of our renowned Pagoda World  (PW) magazine (now issued twice a year to all our Full Members), and two windshield stickers of our new Logo that we changed last year. The task of mailing out our Welcoming Pavkages is now handled by someone else. However, I've decided to keep this listing up to date since it will help many of you finding other Pagoda owners in your immediate area. If you are more avanced in using this site you can also find members in your area by checking our dataBase that is sortable as follows -----> Members---> View the Memberlist then sort the dataBase by Location by clicking on Location. Then simply page thru the pages until you come to your location.

I like to take a moment and welcome you all ( if your first name is shown above, you live in the USA or Canada and you have registered as a Full Member between October 2015 and now then this message is for you) to our Pagoda SL Group. May you always have safe travels in your Pagoda and sunny days for Top-Down Outings.

Some of you have signed up last October and November as well as in December. We try to mail out the welcome package as soon as we can, however, sometimes unexpected circumstances prevent us from doing so.

I've taken over this task of mailing out welcome packages to New Full Members in the Americas since January 1, 2016 and I like to apologize for the delay in getting the welcome package to Full Members having signed up in October and November of last year.

The good news is your Welcome Package is in the mail (including for Full Members having signed up in December 2015 and January 2016 for the Americas Areas), and contains a Pagoda World Magazine Issue 16 issued last year in February to hold you over until our next PW arrives at your doorstep.

The PW in your package contains some nice stories from the outing of Members to Goodwood in England a nice story from the Benz Dr., and a Fascinating technical story along with graphs and data you all will enjoy.

Should you have a story you like to share as to how you found your Pagoda or an interesting outing you had, do share it with us, we always need new material for our Pagoda World Magazine and Pagoda Notes.

Once again welcome and if you have not already done so tell us something about you and your car in the tread below (New Members Introduction Link) and don't forget to add some photos of your treasure we all love to see photos of a Pagoda from our members.

For Associate Members, if you want to receive the Pagoda Group logo window sticker, together with Pagoda World twice a year, you need to join as a Full Member.  That way you also get access to the full Technical Manual that will save you the price of Membership ($30 USD) the first linkage adjustment you do when you do it incorrectly

That $30.00 is a pretty good deal I say all considering (getting two nice magazines a year and expert help from members on our site that have gone thru growing pain during restorations and maintenance. Not to mention in great detail all the free advice available in our Technical Manual). No need to mention the cost and effort to a) maintain our web site, b) prepare the Pagoda World magazines for publication c) Board Members volunteer there time and services free of charge. Etc. Ect. Etc.

When one thinks about it each Full Member indeed gets ALL of his yearly investment back. Great deal I say for less then 0.09 cents a day for being a Member of this Non Profit Organization where we help each other out to find solutions for our beloved toy problems. There simply is no better deal to be had

To our New Full Members I just like to point out that some time ago one of our founding Members and past Presidents opened this thread (see link below).

It is a great way to interduce yourself (unless you already done so) and tell us a bit about you and your car. It is a great read when you find the time to do so. You get to know other Members here and what car they have, how they found it etc.

Perhaps your story is very unusual like one I read (I forget now if it was in the tread below or one of the stories in the Pagoda Style Book this fellow found his car in the US and had it shipped to Italy, he followed the ship every step of the way. When it finally arrived the Italian Port Authoreties did not let him see it for weeks (might have been days) until all the paperwork was done. It took several weeks as I recall. Must have been nail biting for the poor fellow.

Anyway New Members or Associate Members, have a read ... Tell us your story we are always looking for good stuff for our Pagida World or Pagoda Notes publications.

Perhaps a bit late, Welcome to our Group.

Thanks for recommending fellow MB Club Mexican Members to join our truly international Pagoda SL Group we look forward in sharing experiences and knowlage about our cars. As you properly know by now there are a great deal of helpfull and knowlageable members in our group. 

We like to encourage members to tell us there story about the history of there Pagoda, perhaps you and your friends might find the time to do just that, Members here always like to read about it. Sometimes the story finds its way into Pagoda World or Pagoda Notes. Also, perhaps some day one of the Mexican Members might volunteer to serve on our Board.

In one of my above posts I have the link to Members Introductions the thread tells interesting stories about how Members found there car and the work they needed to do to put them into the road.

I like to post here every month the new Full Members that joined our Group, not only to welcome them also to let other Members (be they Full or Associate Members) know that someone in there area has joined. I hope it helps to get them together at car shows, meets or otherwise exchange information and resources within there area.

Hello Dieter, I´ll be more than happy to write an article and share the experience on how I found my 280SL and the work performed on it. In fact, I already have a rough draft and will work on it in the comming weeks. However, its not yet clear to me where or how to submit it; directions would be appreciated.

I would be honored to serve on the Pagoda SL Group Board and will continue to recommend the Group to other SL Pagoda owners in our country or abroad.

If you wish you can send it to me my daughter is a Professor at a local University here and has done editing work for Pagoda World in the past.
 
In the later part of the year there will be a thread asking for new Board Members, when you see it do add your name to the list. We all volunteer our time (some for one year others for three years, handling some of the tasks of the Pagoda SL Group) it would be nice to have a member from your country on our board.

I just joined and would love to receive a welcome packet.  I have a 1968 250SL with about 67,000 miles that I have owned for almost 14 years.  I bought it from a friend with 53,000 miles on in.  Unfortunately I don't know too much about my car's history prior to the previous owner - just some unverified "stories".
Can anyone tell me how to go about researching my car's history?  I'm pretty confident it was originally purchased in Chicago Illinois and I think there were only a couple dealerships here at that time. 

Any suggestions?

Welcome Dale, perhaps this conversation would be best continued elsehwere, but some quick thoughts:
- to receive a welcome package, you would need to upgrade your membership to 'paid' status (nominal fee of $30 per year which carries nice benefits)
- history research is difficult if not impossible through the official authorities (privacy) so your best bet is to go back up the ownership trail, try to find out who the owner was before the previous owner

Hi Dale,

Welcome to the Group.  As Cees has said you need to be a Full Member to receive the welcome packages and window stickers.  This will also entitle you to receive the Pagoda World twice a year as well as Pagoda Notes.  You will also then get full access to the Tech Manual, a must if you wish to do day to day maintenance tuning of your car.

The first thing, ( after joining as a Full Member.lol) is to get in touch with Tom Hanson at Mercedes Classic Centre in CA and get your Data Card.  This will give you the full story on your car, what options etc it came with and its build date. A good start point for any owner.

I would like to pass on my thanks to Rolf-Dieter who has been looking after my responsibilities for new members for “non Americas” whilst I have been away for two months attending the Euro Tour this year.  I arrived back today after a very long boat ride from UK to Australia.

These are voluntary positions and Rolf Dieter has continued to do his “Americas” new members as well as ones that I would normally do for the rest of the world.

Thanks Rolf-Dieter.

On this note, I believe Rolf Dieter is stepping down at the end of his term as the Membership Administrator for ‘Americas' due to family needs and we will be looking for another volunteer for that position.  Ideally it would/should be someone from USA or Canada to both balance the Board of Pagoda Group but also to be able to continue mailing from USA or Canada.  It is not an overly onerous task but does take a couple of hours a month.  All costs for mailing out are of course reimbursed.

If you think you would like to help in this taks please let me or Ray Hays our President know.

Dear Members,

I'm posting this note to let New Members know that there will be no postings of our Welcoming Package to New Members during the period of July 3rd to August 2nd 2017. Garry and I will be on holidays during this period.

Garry Marks and myself are embarking on our 2017 vacation trips. Garry already is well on his way going North down under where he will soon find warmer weather his plans for returning will be sometime late in August or early September when weather starts to get warmer in Southern Australia.

I will be leaving for my Euro trip on July 3rd and will return August 2nd. it will be my first trip back home in 5 years. My trip will take me to Amsterdam, Enkirch for this years Mosel Tour, ** Düsseldorf, Wien, Stuttgart, Affalterbach to the AMG Engine Plant for a private tour, Frankfurt, ** Berlin and ** Hamburg before returning to Amsterdam for a few more days before returning to Canada. It is a trip that has been waiting to be crossed off my Bucket List

I will be looking after Garry's postings of the Welcoming Package to International New Members until he returns from his holiday trip.

I ask that you be pationed in receiving your Welcoming Package if you should join as a Full Member between the period of July 3rd to August 2nd I will post them as soon as I return from my trip to New Members for the Americas and International New Members that joined our Group between the aforementioned period.

** I will be visiting the Classic Remise (prior name was Meilenwerk) in Düsseldorf, Berlin und Hamburg (great places to visit where Germans park there toys and have them looked after by mechanics and at the same time give the public a chance to admire them). I will be taking photos of any Pagode/Pagoda I spot and share them in another "Photo" tread later. If you ever find yourself in those three cities or near bei a visit to the Meilenwerk is highly recommended. Just Google "Classic Remose" to learn more about it and see some great cars, not as great as our Pagoda of course

EDIT; Added the new name for Meilenwerk now named "Classic Remise" also added 4 photos from my visit to the Düsseldorf Classic Remise (Mielenwerk). I spotted 5 Pagodas at the Classic Remise in Düsseldorf, 1 as seen in photo 3, 3 Pagoda's can be seen in Photo 4 and a black one it is a 280SL (center in Photo 2) I spoke to the owner of the black 280sl as he drove the car in, he told me that he drives this car every day and works at the Classic Remise (nice work if you can get it) I will be adding a thread later with more photos in our Photo Forum Area once I get over my jet lag ... Amsterdam ... Paris ... Toronto then driving to London, Ontario totalled a 14 hour trip.

And if some don’t believe Rolf Dieter, here is a photo of my vehicle out side the Birdsville Pun this morning.  Birdsville is about as central in Australia as you can get. Today I drove from there to Mt Isa the nearest big town, a total of 670Km. A fair bit of dirt, but not as bad as the day before that was 700km (420 miles) all dirt and rocky road. And only shredded one tyre yesterday.

Pagoda World Issue 21 arrived in Canada

My new supply of Pagoda World Issue 21 arrived on my desk for distribution to New Full Members that are joining our mids. Our Magazine always contains great technical as well as other great stories. As our Editor mentioned we always can use more stories to use in our magazine now that we issue Pagoda World twice a year (Our early Spring issue and our September issue). So if you have a story about your Pagoda, do send it in to our Editor it might just be published in one of our next Pagoda World issues. Don't worry about grammar or spelling we have many volunteers (including my daughter) that will look after those minor issues. So why not send us your story or something you did yourself on your Pagoda. 

Our September Issue #21 contains amongst other stories three stories about;-

Part 2 of Alfred’s story about our “Horn” with detail photographs.

Al’s story about his “Shatzi’s  (also Part 2) how he made her more perfect.

Robert’s story about “Re-Upholstery for the Do-It-Yourselfer”

I now have PW Issue #10 to #21, someday somehow I like to get hold of Issues #1 to #9 for the contents are truly first class and something each Pagoda Owner should have part of his library.

This will be my last post on this thread as a Membership Director for North America. For personal health issues and commitments to my wife as a full-time caregiver, I will not seek re-election to the board. As of December 1st, 2018, Gerry Marks wilL post Welcoming Packages to new Full Members that join our Group. Garry offers to do this until a new Board Member is appointed with this task.

I hope that this thread has helped New Full Members over the past 3 years a bit to get to know or contact Members in their respective areas, Also I tried to point New Full Members in the direction on this site where they could quickly get familiar with the site (with the various links I posted). I don't know if it did help since I only received one thank you note  

It has been a pleasure to help out and give back to this site a small token of thanks for the knowledge I gained about my car and being part of this Group.

For your kind comments. I was fortunate to find a good replacement in Hugh Rawling, he lives just slightly 1 mile from where I live. Hugh and I had a nice meeting yesterday and he will carry on where I left off once he is ready to do so. Meanwhile Garry thanks for holding the fort till January 1st for me I do appreciate your help very much.

We will see what the future holds in store, I will probably offer to serve this fine group again when it becomes possible.

I originally opened this thread to help New Full Members find other Existing Members within there area for meet and greats, as well as point out some of the excellent help threads that have been included on this site already. Unfortunately, I had to give up my position as Membership Director in December 2018 due to health issues. I am fine now after treatments in 2019 and now only hold a very minor position on the site as Audit Comity Member. It is a position not requiring much of my time so I can continue to add New Full Members here having joined our SL Pagoda Group.

The purpose of this thread is actually three-fold.

It gives existing Members here a chance to welcome New Full Members.

It gives New Full Members the opportunity to find Members within there area where they live.

It helps New Members within the area where they live to organize get-togethers like coffee & cars.

We do have large get-togethers like our PagodaFest in 2018r in San Diego, California. However, smaller get-togethers are also great fun. I know we are living in difficult times right now due to COVID-19 and now one knows how long this new normal we now have to live by will last. It should not stop us to maintain Social Distances for our coffee and cars meet and great get-togethers within the areas where we live.

During our final dinner at PagodaFest, I mentioned that we have an existing program on our site that easily lets you find other Members within the State/Province or Country, you can sort this program by LOCATION then scroll thru the pages to find your State or Country. Long time watching but now joining as my dear wife has given the green light for a W113 Pagoda to join the garage. This has also been her dream car and I'm not going to disagree.

Covid19 is partly responsible for this as you never know what life is going to throw at you so seize the day.

All we need to do is wait for the right car to come along and join an eclectic collection in North West PA.

Sorry about this, I keep this listing up todate as I have the time. I must have had an interuption when I was updating the list in June. Your handle now has been included in my listing. As noted elsware in this tread I keep this tread up to date so that New Members can find other members in the area they live. To this end it is not an offishial listing. The official Member list is our "Member Listing" (see attachement) and your Member ID is listed there. BTW our Member Listing is sortable, so if you call the listing up and sort it by "Location" then scroll to Germany you will find other Members perhaps near you. It has come to my attention from Members sending me a PM that there name does not appear on my “Monthly Listing”. After further checking into this I found out that once a Member registered that date will remain his/her “Registration Date”

So if a Member registered first as a Associate Member say in October 2016 and then upgrades to Full Membership in December 2020, I would never know that he/she is now a Full Member, unless I go onto the Memberlist and check December 2020 when he/she originally registered. For that reason alone I must stop adding Members here to this “Monthly Welcoming Thread” I must do this since the Member Status will change one way or another and I won’t know. The BOTTOM LINE IS the site Memberlist is always correct and up=tp-date my Monthly List would not be 100% correct.

If you are a Full or Associate Member and reading this, let me Welcome you here to one of the greatest Car Sites that I’ve ever come across since I became a car nut over 60 years ago :-) This is a truly International site for the timeless Pagoda. You will find helpful and knowledgeable individuals on this site that are willing to help you with your car issues.

My original intention for updating members that joined monthly on this “Monthly Listing”.was so that new or long term members could see if another member joined within the area were they lived. So, let me leave you here with some tips as to how you can check yourself in our powerful SPREADSHEET that is sortable by simply clicking on one of the spreadsheet headings. So, say for example if you live in Denmark and just joined and like to find out how many other members from Denmark are on this site you would proceed as follow:-

CLICK on “Members” (see attachment Member Option).
CLICK on  “View the Memberlist”
Once the spreadsheet opens CLICK on “Location” this now will sort the entire spread sheet by Location.
Once the spreadsheet has sorted page down to “Denmark” (see attachment Denmark Members),
      scrolling and/or paging down will show you bow all members in Denmark.

If you like to see some of our “Long Term” Members CLICK on “Posts” (See Attachment Long Term Members),

Go try it from time to time, who knows perhaps you find someone in your town or just down the street like I did when I found Hugh (your now Membership Director for North America).
