best lubricant for ignition switch
« on: December 05, 2015, 14:33:29 »
Hello
The other day the key i usually use did not want to turn in my ignition switch.

I grabbed another key and it worked but it did not turn smoothly.
I replaced the entire assembly back in 99' with a new unit from MB.

Should I toss the old key or should I lubricate the switch or both?
The tech manual says graphite however I have read online that graphite may not be the best choice.
alternatives are silicone spray or teflon lubricant.

Thanks in advance
Matt

I've always used graphite, with good results.

Yep, nothing but graphite.  The spray type uses a liquid to distribute the graphite, and it evaporates leaving only the graphite behind.  You will want to keep something handy to wipe off your key for the first few days until everything dries.
