280 SE coupe Head
« on: February 05, 2015, 17:04:54 »
I need some help.

Background:

I have a a low grill 280 SE coupe.  Thought that I had a bad head gasket.  Once the head was removed we found that a lot of previous welding had been done on the head as well as some damage.  Since I did do the work I don't know the quality of it.  Head casting # is 130 016 32 01.  Engine # 130.980-12-052555.  I do not want to rebuild it and find a weld is bad.

Solution:

I am posting it here because this is where I found the tech info on the different heads and the interchangability.  I have found a head in a junk yard # 130 016 08 01.  I just want to confirm that this head will work on the above engine number.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Jeff

Those two numbers should interchange just fine. Both are for the later style block.  I suspect that you are reconditioning the new head before you install it. Check for flatness and thickness before you begin.

Thanks Joe,  That is the info I needed.  I bought an earlier head and found that I cannot use it.  I just wanted to make sure the "32" and the "08" will work on my block.  Yes we are going to redo the head.
