Front Panel Shape?
« on: October 20, 2014, 09:02:13 »
Hi Guys,

A bit of an odd question. My friend and I are both restoring our 280SL's  - he is a few months ahead of me and has a question that I am not 100% certain about (the question that is....let alone the answer). Here goes.
Whilst I am normally the more anal of the two - he claims the piece of panel between the middle of the front wheel arch and the hip (notch) above is variable from panel to panel. On his car he has one flattish (vertical) and one more curved (bulbous). Apparently my project car has one of each also (different sides) - which kind of makes sense as I am fairly certain one front panel on my project car (fender or wings) was replaced. On my restored car (below) they appear to me to be pretty much the same (curved?) but I do know both wings were replaced 20+ years ago on my restored car. My friend also looked at some other cars today but could not find a common link. Can anyone help with this one?
(personally I'm not too bothered by it as you cant see both sides at once and I have never heard this one before.... nor could I find a past post about it)

Cheers

Rob
