I actually never planned to let that slip. If I had hopped on here spouting off about some trust find or something, and being a Rockefeller, it wouldn't have been the real me, nor would y'all have respected me

I guess that's why you registered with an email address visible to everyone checking your profile starting with louis.rockefeller@.......
Looks like you've choosen to hide your email as of lately now that the "secret" has slipped.

If your looking to gain credibilty here, how about not ignoring the numerous requests for detailed pictured of your low mile car. Lots of us
here restoring and maintaing these cars look for pictures of low miles unmolested cars.
But I assume this will be complicated now that the car has gone into storage.

I'll swing by and take some pics today, no problem.
I didn't realize it was visible, wouldn't have set it like that on purpose

Thanks Louie,

The explanation about the car dealership puts your claims in perspective and how you had access to all these cars and worked on so many by age 17. Without that piece of knowledge it didn’t make sense.  I don’t think your name had anything to do with it which is why most people use a simple handle for their name on line.

So, with so much interest in an original car, photos are what we like around here, of any cars, we have a “other Cars” area as well ;)

Go for it Louie.

Loven it.  Louie, you've gotten 2 pages on this one.  Yes, thanks Peter good overview. We have an amazing assembly of tallent and experience, and interests here.  W113's deserve no less!  Mine has sustained the addition of an R107 consol.  I don't feel right driving a sports car with no consol.  Once I get the wood panels finished I'll post to the dismay of those in search of the perfect W113.  Mine was far from perfect after 2 previous abusers, but i"m sure it wasn't perfect when first delivered.  I've been suffering through adjusting the FIP for 6 months now.  What a merry-go-round it's been.  Its good to know the performance is coming with the best gas milage.

A picture of my girlfriend and I dancing from above!

Ok now I can see it!

I recall my car had a small pinstripe when I got it now 14 years ago and I thought it looked ok; along the line that runs on the side of the bodywork. When I had the car repainted I didn't put it back on though, and I like the cleaner look myself.

A fellow I worked with bought a ’70 SL back in 1970. It was parchment white with red MBTex interior and had a red pinstripe along the crease on the body' slde and it didn't look all that bad. He also took his new SL down to Tijuana Mexico and had a tuck and roll upholstery put in. I lost touch with him in the late 70’s but I remember him talking about dropping a Ford 289 in it. If you are out there George, chime in:-)

One of the loveliest details about our SLs is that the design includes a natural pinstripe along the crease. You don't really need to highlight it with paint. Sunlight and shadow do the same, as in this photo that was posted to the Facebook group.

I do love that crease line.  My car had an aftermarket chrome and rubber strip along the whole line, which I removed in the current paint restoration.  Had to weld the rivet holes shut.  If one would be interested in pinstriping, that line is a natural accent and draw to the eye.

There was so much pinstriping done in the early 70's that body shops offered "tape" pinstripes as an affordable alternative to the hand-striped version.  It also allowed the non-artistic types to get in the game as all you had to do was follow your own masking tape line. I suspect that's what we are seeing on the brown SL.

My dark green 1973 W114 had tan stripes to match the interior back in the day (hard to see).

I guess I've drawn quite the line in the sand...
Yes pinstripes were overused in the 70s, but most cars from then aren't even around anymore. I know pagodas have the pinstripe line and thought I might enjoy a nice contrast to make it stand out a bit!
