Sunset in the foothills
« on: September 02, 2013, 15:52:28 »
The weather has not been the best here for too many top down drives lately. Summer heat and a very huge fire near Yosemite National Park to the south of us (over 350 square miles of forest burned so far) has created very smoky conditions over most of the area where we live. The winds came up yesterday and blew the smoke to the east so we got in our car and went for a drive in the late afternoon. It was really a beautiful evening and just as we turned onto our street heading for home, the sun ducked below the clouds to give us a glorious sunset. As usual, our little car ran flawlessly :)

John,

Very nice shots ... leaving the headlights on is a nice touch.

On another note,  we were just in Yosemite (with an SUV, not a Pagoda) when the fire began.  The next day we went for some zip-lining in Mariposa (about 20 miles from Yosemite) and we could see the massive smoke cloud just behind us ... here's a photo with the white smoke cloud in the distance.

Hello Oz,
Mariposa is about 130 miles south of us down Hwy49 and is normally a pretty little town. The fire has made things pretty miserable down there and for the surrounding area for sure. Our very unusual rains that came through here yesterday just missed the fire and it continues to burn (now the 4th largest in California's history) . Hope you have had a otherwise enjoyable stay back here visiting your Pagoda:-)

And thanks to all the others that have posted comments. Like I have said before, when the subject is as beautiful as our Pagodas, you just can't take a bad picture!

What is "zip-lining" ?
