inner door handle bezel
« on: June 09, 2013, 12:20:29 »
Hello,

I need some help to take off the inside door handle bezel, in order to remove the door panel and fix a window.
The technical manual says that it should "pop up" with the help of a thin screwdriver.
I don't want to break it, and would like to know exactly how to proceed.
Thanks,

Thanks, Kevin,

It helps, but partly because my SL is a late 280 with the square bezel (not the round showed on the pic)
Should I understand that the chrome bezel stays on the panel and I have only to take of the black plastic plate behind the lever ?

O kay, I took the black plastic off and found behind it the screwn holding the bezel.
Everything after that was simple, but I had a bad surprise when I looked at the window mechanism.

The only surprise to me is that you were surprised!

The bad surprise is that he window regulator arm is broken.
And, of course, you cannot find a new arm, you have to replace the entire regulator, or find a repair kit (see my other post)

Hello,

Why don't you have the arm welded?

I appreciate your advice.
For the moment, I am looking for a used part or for a repair kit somewhere in Europe.
I only need the broken arm, not the whole regulator, which is very expensive to replace.
But it does not seem that there are some replacement arms on the market. Only Bud's is proposing a kit to reinforce it, but it has to be welded.
There are also some used regulators for sale on Ebay, but these parts are sold in the US, and the cost of shipping to France is prohibitive.

So, I am still looking around, and will get it welded if I don't find any other solution (it has to be welded very carefully to get it to its original shape).

Thanks to ja17,

I had the arm welded, I ordered some spare parts to replace the guide jaws, and my window is now working perfectly.
The fix is the same as proposed by Bud's on Ebay, but was made locally. I think that the problem was caused by a missing jaw, and I am ready to bet that the arm will not break again  !
