Ok to use Wynns injection cleaner?
« on: March 27, 2013, 23:00:29 »
The previous owner of my 1969 280SL used to put injector cleaner in the petrol (gas) on a regular basis.  I have not done this and whilst the engine runs well I thought that the last long run I took  used more petrol that it should and there was a stronger smell of pertol than normal.  After checking all the obvious things I don't have a petrol leal or slipping clutch so thought I would put some injector cleaner in..  Just before I do, I thought I would ask if this is ok?  The injector cleaner is added to the petrol.

My first impression is that your car may be running too rich ? Perhaps you need to go over all the obvious checks first (CSV, linkages, etc)

I'm sure the other gurus here will provide some better insight.
I also use injector cleaner (in tank) and it is primarily just to clear things out before the next oil change. I use Liqui-Moly

Hi Franjo, thanks for that, your summation makes sense, however it was running well before a 5 week spell where it just sat idle.  Will bung the injector cleaner in and take it for a blat.
