Hello,

I realize I am posting to the wrong forum, but this is only one Mecedes-Benz forum I frequent from time to time. I need an advice:
my 300Se coupe I drive around California started to hesitate under acceleration. Can you recommend me the independent expert who could look at my fuel pump tuning? Anywhere between Monterey Bay area and SF Bay area would help.

Thank you big time,

Martin

Are you looking for a mechanic who can tune your car or do you want information on injection ump repair?
If it is the latter then this one is the best:

Martin,

If you are able, begin with the linkage tour that is on this site and it will get you started down the right path.

Make sure all of your ignition is working perfectly and then move on to fuel. This engine sets up and uses the same basic principals as a 113 engine. They are much more difficult to rebuild and far more exspensive to do, however.

I have a RHD 300SE sedan here that was really fun to sort out. Not much room to work with all of those pipes, brake booster and steering gear in the way. ;)

Try replacing all plugs. They can get oil tracked and even 'blasting won't sort them. They can fail when firing under high compression such as acceleration.

The distributor on this engine uses a dual point system and it's the unit I've used on my own car without any problems. It was state of the art in the day and in many ways it still is. You will need to sync the two sets of points so that the distributor fires every 60 degrees and this can only be done with a distributor tester.

All the electronic replacement does is eliminate the points and it will do nothing to fix other problems that may exsist inside the distributor.

Thank you for your suggestions, guys. After all I diagnosed the problem as worned points. The arms did not move at all. I waited till Monday and went to buy new  to local MB stealer. Their price is 128 bucks per piece, so I better reset mine old ones and was back in business. Car started and run OK to get us into local Monterrey shop specialised in old cars, including MB. After talking with an owner a bit I could see he knows these cars, so I let his shop to set the points for me.
1 hour and 120 bucks later we were back on road and car run  better than before. Thank you Classic Coach Works at Monterrey, CA.
To not let us enloyed the drive too long without an adventure, some 200 miles later the membrane of the brake booster ruptured. But that is another story.

Thanks to everybody who chimed in,

Martin
