Wood Speaker fret spacers query
« on: September 19, 2016, 20:12:33 »
Hi all,

I decided to repair and re-veneer the speaker fret myself.  I also made an additional blade as one was missing.

My only problem is with regards the three blade spacers.  The one for the middle is self explanatory the ones on the outside both have recesses in the back and I cannot remember which end of the fret the recesses go.  Would it be as (A) or  (B).  Does anyone have a photo showing the rear of a speaker fret I could look at please?

Regards

Steven

Side spacers 23mm from the widest part of the speaker opening.

Thanks for the photos and the dimension.

It's interesting as the rear of my speaker fret is different to yours.  Mine has some metal inserts where the screws pass through.
Also, your two outer cross members dont have the same scollops as mine.  I was trying to workout why the scallops have been added by placing the fret on the speaker but I see no clearance issues.

A wild guess is the scallops were like yours originally until enough small children bonked on the grille breaking down the spacers which lead to an engineering discussion of "Do the scallops really have to be this long?"
