Grill Star sources?

I just noticed that my grill star is tweaked and I see that it can be removed from the barrel with two screws,  Is there a source for grill stars, i.e. reproduction or otherwise?  Thanks!

Buds Benz has their own reprodution grill star made outof brass.  Don't know about the fit.

And they can be sued for selling too. Anything with the benz star is copyrighted.
Some of the repro castings are really quite poor. If you do find one make sure it's chrome plated and not just bare metal. The cost to have it finished is as much as the real deal. The real one is only sold as a complete unit with the barrel around the star.

Thanks Dan for jumping in I did not want to steer James in the wrong direction.  Did you learn about this the hard way?  

Dan this question is may be way off topic here.  A few weeks ago I was browsing around the 190sl site.  Here I saw that some members were getting their cars ready for a drive.  There was one guy in particular that was applying duct tape to the outer edge of his hood.  I guess he was trying to keep water out (rain day) of the engine bay :?:  :?:   Can you explain this?  BTW the sunglasses you were wearing looked  8)

Hausser .... If you were referring to the 190SL Group site, that was an old photo from the West Point Convention.  The 190SL is not as water tight as the 113 and many of us use black electrical tape to stop the leaks.  Primarily, the gap between the top and the windshield and the windshield and the body (including the wiper shaft seals).  It is fairly effective and the black tape blends in with the black rubber seal.  The picture you saw was the extreme; David had a leak in his battery box (above the passenger's feet) so he taped the hood to keep water out of the battery box.

Thanks Jim!  That explains it.  Just goes to show you learn something new everyday.

As you may know I purchased my car from Alex Dearborn.  The car was  owned by the CEO of the GAP and later by Tom Hamilton.  Alex is selling a 1961 190sl.  Was this car also owned by Tom H.?  I remember seeing this car on the Dearborn site about a year ago or so and now it's back.

I wouldn't mind having one of these but don't know much about them.  Is there a good source of information to check out before making the plunge?

The red 190SL?  I know that car VERY well. I drove it out to West Point along with Tom and his wife in his own car.

This car once belonged to David Rosales ( I think ) and lived in Florida for several years. It took a national first place award during that time. I believe Bob Platz did the resto and it is nice - about 14,000 miles on the car. That's one of the lowest milage 190's there is.

I did the complete fuel system, all the brakes including brake booster, cylinder head, starter generator, clutch /pressure plate and a number of other smaller items. After sitting unused for several years all of these things needed to be redone.
The car went to Bruce Adams after that for fine detail work. It is a fantastic car - like driving one when it was new. Tom still ownes it I think.
