The Culprit, Window Installation
« on: January 29, 2012, 02:21:10 »
This week's goal for my 280SL project was to install the window regulators, and a stretch, the glass.  The regulators went well and operated smoothly without the glass.  The glass on the right side went in, and raised and lowered nicely.

The left side glass was another matter.  It was tough to slide the glass into the tracks, and raising and lowering took 'way too much force.   Adjustments offered no relief.  Puzzled, I took a close look at the small guide that sits on top of the track at the front of the door.  It looked like it was cocked a bit to one side, putting pressure on the outside of the glass.  I removed the top screw that secures the guide to the door.  Then I found that a small piece of sandpaper was wedged between the outside of the door and the guide, canting the guide toward the inside and putting pressure on the outside of the glass.

With the sandpaper removed and the guide re-fastened, the glass raised and lowered smoothly.
