Soft-top and Seals
« on: March 10, 2003, 06:31:06 »
This spring I’m going to replace the soft-top on my 230SL.  When I do this, should I renew all of the soft-top seals around the windshield, windows, etc…?  The current top is old, at least 15-20 years and I’m sure the seals are as old or older.

Thanks

Scott,
I recommend replacing the seals. The tops tend to leak at the outside corners above the wind screen. This is where the front seal meets (or should) the seals on the front pillar and those between the window frame and side glass. You will also need to get the lighter foam pieces that glue to the underside of the soft top, just above the rails over the side windows. I believe they are call anti-squeek or anti-flutter. Tom Hanson at Caliber Mototrs can fix you up, and give you a good discount if you are a member of MBCA.
