Touch up paint
« on: September 25, 2009, 09:09:01 »
Hi all, Just purchased a '70 280SL which I believe to be Silver Grey. Is there touch up paint and/or spray cans available for this colour paint. I'm in the UK. Thanks

There are a few auto paint sources on the Internet located in the USA...maybe some in the UK also. You order a rattle spray can of paint by giving the MB paint code.

I have never used touch up in a bottle with a brush.

www.towerpaint.com

www.paintscratch.com

An even better color match might result if the car is taken to a local auto paint shop that will sell  paint in a spray can...the shop can use its magic color sensor to get the exact formula for the  coilor on the car which, after a repaint and fading, mght no longer be the precise original MB color.

I have used Paintscratch.com for a touch up pen but they will not post pressure cans overseas for the obvous reasons.  Their touch up pens were good provided you give them the correct code for your paint color!!

I tried the Paintscratch pen but got better results with the bottle with built in brush.  It was easier to control the amount of paint applied.

Try your local MB dealer.
Some older paint codes are still available (small bottle with brush or two including clear lacquer if metallic)

For an aerosol try colorite in hanwell, they'll knock one up to colour code.

For aerosol based touch-ups I personally prefer Tower Paint as they were less expensive and had a superior spray tip.

Last I purchased was approx 4 years ago. Things might have changed.
