Rubber Brake Part
« on: July 08, 2009, 20:52:56 »
Hi,
I have been looking for a part for my 1970 280SL and my local Mercedes parts guy with 25 years of experience (he knew the fender part numbers off the top of his head) couldn't find it.  I am looking for the little rubber check valve/drain fitting that is installed in a hole in the bottom of the hand brake lever housing. Basically it allows the water out of the housing but doesn't allow any water or dirt back in.

Hello Shvegel,
sorry, I am not "Tom Hanson",   ;)
but I remember that this plug was discussed in an old post that I cannot find now.  However, the consensus was that it is not a "check valve" but a simple rubber plug. The 280SL parts list describes it as "rubber buffer - in hand brake covering" but is was also used in five other locations.
I hope it plugs the hole that you have in mind.
