Title: cigarette lighter stuck
Post by: blue230sl on December 17, 2007, 13:56:29
it pushes in, but doesnt pop out past the outer ring, and i can't get it out. don't want to force it. any ideas?
fyi, don't smoke - have a portable air compressor for the tires that uses the cigarette lighter receptacle to jack into the battery for power...

I had a similar problem when I first bought my car. It had a modern radio fitted with a wide surrounding plate that prevented the lighter to be removed.
Take the radio out and see if that helps, I originally files the surrounding plate to allow for the lighter until I managed to purchase an original Beker radio. Now it is all OK.

You might be able to see what I mean if you can compare the radios in these two photo's of my car:

Photo 1, radio as bought, radio surround interfears with lighter, bit hard to see but hope it helps.

Photo 2, With correct radio with no interference to lighter from radio.

Hope this helps you out.

You could try removing the entire lighter assembly from behind the dash, socket and all and then use force on a workbench so that you don't do damage in the car.  If you ruin it, you can replace with a new one.

Hello again John,

Thanks, yes it is a great colour, I have always liked it and I have had people I don't even know come up and comment on the colour.

I am afraid I do not know exactly what it is called or the MB number, is there someone who knows how to decipher the Part Number & Description section of the Mercedes information card??

I am glad it is not your radio/surround stopping your lighter from working correctly, but you should find that if you remove your radio you will easily get at the back of the lighter to remove it for a closer inspection and hopefully repair.

There is always a reason for things not working, it's just a matter of finding out what it is... :)

Anyhow good luck and please post your finding when you do work it out, I do not smoke either but I use the lighter for a power source for my GPS occasionally.

BTW once you have the lighter out you will see the beautiful connectors Mercedes use to apply power to the lighter, it makes you understand how they received such a good reputation for quality (especially when compared to other car makes of the era).

hi paul,
here's some info that may help.
http://www.sl113.org/wiki/pmwiki.php?n=DataCard.Start
you can also do a search on data card and you can email your chassis number to Classicparts@mbusa.com, and ask for a copy of your data card with explanations of the codes.
cheers!
and happy holidays,
john

I have the opposite problem, Though I am not a smoker my lighter may be wrong . When pushed in it does not function. Are new lighters available? Also is there power to the lighter when the ignition is off?

Hi again, just in case you have not already seen this, there is a lighter for W113 (+ other models)currently listed on eBay.

Look for item number: 110207009164 on the German site or use this link if it works:

http://cgi.ebay.com/MERCEDES-Zigarrenanzuender-W108-W109-W110-W111-W113-W115_W0QQitemZ110207009164QQihZ001QQcategoryZ76017QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

It's a long URL, you may need to pice it together for it to work.

Good luck blue230sl!!
