Title: "common problem of the AC compressor pulley hitting the sway bar..."
Post by: teahead on May 09, 2023, 21:46:38
I just talked to my frame shop who were installing new front springs.

I had them also install a 22mm sway bar to replace the 20mm that's in there.

They told me that there's "no way" that sway bar will fit because it's hitting the compressor.

I did a search and other than this thread about the Fantomworks 230SL resto:

I can't find anything about this "common problem."

I wonder if I have a 280SE sway bar, or is that extra 2mm (280SL stock is supposedly 20mm) really interfering that much into the ac compressor?

I haven't gotten it home yet and removed the sway bar to compare the bends are the same or not between the two bars.

I'm wondering if something like these would work (gotta check the hole spacing of course):

The shop can't lay them beside each other and compare?  Send you a pick of them side by side?

Well...I tried adding 1/4" shims.

Still no go, so I'm going to put up the 22mm sway bar for those WITHOUT AC!
