Title: Unidentified part
Post by: getsmart on May 08, 2023, 08:29:24
Hello all!!!!

Does anyone recognise this part? It's only about 15mm diameter and has a split in it.

It might be perhaps only found on early 230sls' but perhaps it came from something unrelated.

It looks like it could something to do with the windscreen washer system but I'm only thinking that because it was in the container with all those bits.

Regards, Joe

Hi, Joe,

That looks like a cable adjusting nut, such as is found on many bicycle and motorcycle cables (brake, clutch, etc.).

I've never inspected my hood release cable, but wouldn't be surprised if it had such an adjuster.

Hi,
I think I've seen something like this before in connection with the antenna cable.

It's a universal grommet and wasn't fitted by the factory.

Stick is right. It is a grommet that holds wires inside - thus the split - and screws into a hole through e.g.: sheet metal. The adjusting nuts on motorcycle control cables are metal and have a locking screw/ring. I have several of these grommets lying around and do not know exactly where they came from.

Thanks all,

It can be quite a challenge identifying parts when one didn't do the initial tear down of the car - its challenging enough putting it all back together. I do wonder how many items I've installed something back to front, upside down or inside out  :D ;) Does explain though when I threw her in reverse she went forward!!!!!!  ;D ;D ;D

Best Rgds, Joe
