Title: Parking brake
Post by: OysterSlayer on April 24, 2023, 05:14:43
I'm need help, when I park my 70 280sl on the slope of my driveway it will roll forward in park with the handbrake engaged. The hand lever is adjusted correctly but I'm wondering if there is something more I should be looking for. If I have the car just in park on a slight slope and let off the brake it will also roll and makes a clicking sound. I know these are two seperate issues and I would like to get them resolved and hoping that you experts can give me advise.

I believe the clicking sound just means your automatic transmission's 'P' parking feature is working correctly.

As for your manual parking / emergency brake not working properly, I would examine the actual brake shoes in the rear. Maybe they are frozen in place or are otherwise compromised.

Bad shifter bushings. Common problem on all of these old cars.  We change all of them.
