Title: Trunk Interior Paint - 7164
Post by: JimEast on April 02, 2023, 18:25:25
Needing advice regarding the interior paint on the truck on my 1964 230SL.

Following discussions on:

Where can I source this paint? My local dealer said I cannot purchase "7164 tiefdunkelgrau." I also contacted technical staff with BASF the owner of Glasurit and they could not help me.

Thanks
-Jim

Go to a paint dealer that has PPG paint and use this formula

Be prepared to pay an arm and a leg for it if you go to PPG. I think I had to pay something like $90 per pint including the hardener and that was 3 years ago. Don’t know if you could get it in Nason or some other less expensive mix.

Thanks for the paint recipe. I have that color that I can use to match and have the color code. But any PPG store I have been to doesn't want to mess with guessing on how much flattening agent to add. This recipe gives the exact amount of DX 995 to add and now should be no issue. I am about to refinish the underside of my W128 220SE and want to get it right. The Ponton coupes are black underneath BTW.

Thanks again.

I had my trunk painted using the PPG formula and its paint and I am very pleased. Here’s a couple pix.  The lighter section on the bottom of the trunk is where  bright sunlight was streaming in.
